Hmm how many people have put the same amount of research into both?

And, how many of them have gotten as far as I did with one and then decide it was wortwhile to change to the other?

There is no question, 4efte is the way to go.

Being creative with MINOR issues like mounting turbos, intercoolers and radiators is ALL PART OF THE FUN! To me, thats what it's all about. If it takes me an hour longer to find a solution to fit a radiator to a 4efte than it would do to fit one to a gti, it's a cheap excercise!

Okay so:

1. Which is easier to do?
Starlet, the majority of the toyota mounts can be used.
2. Which is cheaper?
Depends really. All about buying and selling skill. Old adage, but low, sell high.
3. What is the "approx" price of each conversion, engineered?
Well. EVERYTIME i answer this question I get ragged on. Will, it CAN be done for $5k. Assuming you have a car, with discs, and wheel. Remember all we are talking is engine conversion.
4. Which is "better" to do - power, time, cost, etc.
Starlet, no doubt. 133hp factory. Increase boost, You'll get 115-120atw.
5. Do they both fit without any knowledge of one being in there from the outside. (twincammini had box section near his bumper?)
GTI IS A TIGHTER FIT THAN THE STARLET!!!!! JUST SO EVERYONE KNOWS. No arguing please.

*thinking thinking... deluxe*

Okay and if i were to fit the 4EFTE to a clubby, would the radiator still have to go in the boot?
Up the boost..... yummmmmm 8)

For the record, I have 30 grand of ""savings"".
I'd spend around 1/2 of it on the car... but end up spending all of it; i can see it happening

GTI... MEH; its sounding poorer and poorer the more i read about it.

nothing that you can see on the outside...i am gonna put the turbo over the gearbox which leaves a fair bit of room behind the grille for other stuff (radiator? intercooler?)...gives more room for the T25 i wanna fit...and still gives enuff room for everything else...the only issue with that is where to put the dump pipe...dean put his down the back...should fit there...else i'll just have to sort out some more plumbing to put it down the front where it goes on the starlet...sorted :)

Yeah so basically ... first thing's first - SUBFRAME.
And the driveshaft angle... this means that the motor can really only sit in "one" spot, right?

So... a subframe could be made up then sent to Adelaide maybe?
Then engineered over here, as there aren't too many places that would touch it (i should think) - unless someone knows of any places...

Looks like Inazuma was fighting the battle all by himself.

So, Mini Mad if you would like to come around one day and see the roundnose, let me know.

Basicaly my subframe is very similar to Brad's and generally my motor is in the same spot as the clubman conversions, except i moved mine back just a touch more than the clubies i've seen because i always new i would have limited room upfront.

I have figured out my exhaust manifold and should be able to post pictures by the Aust Day weekend ( i am currently waiting on some additional plates that were sopposed to be ready last week).

My subframe is complete, gear stick is in and linkages connected, alternator in (just fits), brakes ready for installation, intercooler in factory position and clears bonnet, all engine mounts re-built, fuel pump system built.

Only major items really outstanding are Exhaust manifold and exhaust, supply pipe from turbo to IC, shafts (to be made by others), radiator (many ideas in my head, awaiting the completion of my exhaust manifold).

IT WILL HAPPEN IN A ROUND NOSE.

Dan

minimetoy... I am extremely envious of your build.. looks VERY professional.
Whats your engineering fees costing you?

It looks as if i would have to send the car off interstate if i want a company to build up the subframe and get engineered.

Hmm.............

hey you can fit 3Lv8s in round noses, probably fit a 13B rotor too, but it still wont be a clubbie in the end, and we all know clubbies rule :D j/k

I dont care what mini's are being convereted, its all great to see, especially with the 4efte as there such a strong motor/box combination.

You guys putting them into round noses have bigger balls then me, i thought putting it in a clubbie when i started was insane!! but i give you credit for trying it, and will all work out in the end and we can all go racing together :D
