Sorry all. I just found a couple of things that made me giggle about rusty.

Any idea what might have caused that crack around the fuel pump?

i've seen conrods come out of a block and they make them look like that one you have there. you have to have a pretty catastrophic failure internally for a rod to be sent sideways.

what you have to think to yourself is that its only a fuel problem

I think that motor might be a boat anchor , something appears to have let go internally , most likely a con-rod , and has tried to smash it's way out . As for the rusty rocker gear etc , it's possibly savable , with a lot of cleaning and checking , but more likely easier just to get more , since you've got to get another block anyway .

That's what happens when it "puts a leg out of bed". Rod through block = rooted.
