It has been proven more than once that a normal plastic fan robs so little horse power it is barely detectable, it also does more than cool the fan it creats a circuit airflow under the bonnet moving hot air away form the inlet manifold and drawing cooler air over the exhaust.
Putting an electric fan under the wing doesnt do this, it also hamper the drawing effect of the wheel pulling the hot air away from under the wheel arch.
They are great at low speeds but once you get upto a higher speed they become redundant (like a normal fan with cooling).
stick with the plastic fan no hassles there.

Um Jai the electric fan PULLS air out of the engine bay, just as a plastic one does..

I agree with your power loss comment, but those plastic ones are noisy buggers. I like the old 16 blade metal one.:)

Thermo fan under the guard means you can loose the radiator shroud
= much more room + easier to work on + neater engine bay IMHO
