Do yourself a favour Meeni - If you don't get the discs on before you tackle Calder, take all your drums off, blow out the dust, ensure there's no weeping cylinders and contaminated shoes, then put them back on, adjust them properly and bleed out all the old fluid replacing it with new stuff.

Err, yeah! Well I seem to recall another heavy application at the end of the long back straight as well, and a couple of lighter applications going into Turns 2 and 8.

There's dozens of guys racing historic cars on drum brakes (my experience is in a Bugeye Sprite) and there's nothing wrong with drums per se, they need to adjusted properly and regularly, and if you can get some air flow around or through them they'll do an amazing job.

ok, any ideas of what i could do to get better air flow into them? is it as simple as a pipe directing air to them, or something else?

Ducting air from under the car to the inside of the wheels is a good start, but difficult with a pre '65 shell because they don't have the cutouts in the front valance. You can then either strategically remove, or drill ventilation holes in those parts of the backplate that don't have a structural function, then you can replace the cast iron drums with something like the alloy minifin drum or a ribbed cast iron drum that has a greater outer surface area to dissipate the heat. I've even seen ventilation holes drilled in the outer face of the drum around the outside of the hub flange, but I wouldn't recommend that as it may weaken the drum and cause it to fracture
