Well , in dangerous territory now , how good are your welding/mechanical skills ? Are you wanting something you can do a quick tidy up/paint and rego ? I've just had another look at the listing , and the seller say's "good for part's " or similar . Unless you are a very handy person or want a long term project I would say pass on this one . Still worth going and having a look at though , maybe get someone near the seller to get some pic's for you if the seller can't themselves . Just remember , the price he's asking is good for a parts car , but very cheap for something to be easily rebuilt .

If it looks like a decent job has been done on it I would go for it!

Minis can look good without them (as long as the roof gutter stays on... otherwise it looks like a jellybean - according to poeee) but it weakens the body if they're removed.

the best way to get that look is to flatten the seams and not remove them then use bog to form it to make it look nice

im currently the owner of the one for sale to set the record straight the front seams where ground down and mig welded top to bottom in a continuous weld the rear seams have been completly cut out with a gap of about two centremetres in between and I am in the process of welding metal strips in with continuous welds top to bottom they would also be welded from the inside as well, I had a retired panel beater friend tell me this would be stronger than just welding the ground down seam I hope this clears things up regards jason

I guess not but my boyfriend bought me this one lol YAY :) my first mini im so excited, i cant wait to do it up..

did i get a good bargain for what I paid for it ---- $780 how hard will it be to put back together again?? all of you have experience with minis, i only have experience with big cars - old falcons etc. so i thought you could give me a rough idea of how long it will take and how hard it will be..

http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll ... %3AIT&rd=1

1976 Leyland Mini S, unfinished project.
The car has been stripped and have started
sanding back, rust has been cut out (there was very little)
the engine has been removed, ran very well before
removing. Comes with all parts including brand new back
and front windscreens and seals, and many more.
(car was complete with all parts before stripping so
comes with all.) Forced to sell as have no space for it.

the body doesn?t have many dents, from memory there is a dent on the front below where the number plate goes and maybe a couple of small dents elsewhere but nothing major, I have cut most of the rust out, I think there is still a little where the battery sits, the body will need sum filler and possibly a plate wielded in one spot where rust has been removed (small hole) as far as I know gauges ect work but are not fitted to the car (but are included. It has all four wheels and tires, the engine and front sub frame is not in the car but are included (ran and drove well before removing) the body is light so shouldn?t be difficult to put on a trailer. I started stripping the car back over a year ago.

Just for reference: Minis in New Zealand that have been deseamed will not be able to go back on the road. I think existing registered deseamed minis are okay, but I see deseamed and deregistered Minis for sale which can never be driven on the roads here as no engineer will sign them off - buyer beware, I guess. I don't believe that even a certifying engineer will approve deseaming regardless of how you do it; basically it's out. So if you want one in Aus, do it now before your rules change.

I used to like the look, but no longer. The seams are particular to Minis and they add to the look, like 10" wheels and central speedos. Plus it will be a nightmare when you come to replace a panel, which is a certainty with Minis. Just my opinion, of course.

Angus, i'm pretty sure your wrong. You can get them certed, the engineer just needs to see tacked, final welding etc.
I know there is a person in auckland building a minisprint and is able to get it certed.

Ah, well. "I stand corrected" said the man in orthopedic shoes. TBH, I can't remember who told me that.
