Did it work before fitting all the new parts ? Turn the ignition on , take the distributer cap off and with an insulated screwdriver or similar open the points manually , you should see a spark if power is to there . If that works , put the cap back on crank it over again and check at a lead if there's spark . If there's no spark you at least know it's either points adjustment , rotor button , dist cap or leads . If no spark at the points then it's somewhere back further , not sure about there , you've replaced everything except the ign switch . Just as a paranoia check , have you got the coil wires on the right way and also is there an ignition cutout wired to the coil that you've forgotten about ?

Not sure what's going on then , a little out of my league now . The extra wire I was talking about was an earth to one side of the coil (I think) that was often done as a way of extra security about 10 years ago . By earthing out the system using a switch hidden in the dash somewhere you couldn't start it to steal it . Might be somebody elses turn to try and figure this one out I'm affraid .

I just realised you were also posting with problems wiring up the starter solanoid as well , is the solenoid a genuine mini one or a late model "should fit" item ? Maybe time to get an auto electrician out to look at it as something doesn't seem normal there , either that or a priest to do an exorcism on your possessed wiring . Hey , it's a mini , they all have posessed wiring .....

hehehe, the wiring loom is brand new, i think i sorted out the problem with the solenoid, bit on the other hand maybe not, see i have a wire that comes out of the loom for the + coil so when i turn the key to start the engine there is 12v there but i found a diagram on the net (here http://www.novaresource.org/images/solenoid02.gif so i wired it like the pic and it worked but now i have no spark after the coil and the wire that is ment to have 12v when i turn the key now has nothing at all, but when i take the wire off from the solenoid to the coil + it dosnt activate something, my solenoid is a universal style one i had one on my other engine and it worked fine but cant remember how it was wired.

PLEASE HELP!!!!! i just wanna drive it again

Cheers

Rikki

Sorry.. Isn't the coil meant to be wired into the accessories circut?
To me, It looks like that one in the link you posted it is on another one.
My mini ignition only has: off, acc and starter positions. The coil in the pic looks like it is for an ignition with 4 positions. off, acc, coil, starter like modern cars. 4 positions, i belive lets you listen to the radio with the engine not running, without burning out you coil. (if later mini's have 4 position's sorry for my ignorance). Was the original prob that you could only start the car by turning it on and then jumping 12v to the starter? cos yea that would have been the starter sol.
hope this helped.
if not sorry i couldn't help

not the coil in the pic only has 2 points, i think you mean the solenoid cause that has 4 point cos its a new one.

It's really starting to sound like there's something odd with the starter solenoid and it's configuration , any chance of trying another mini one ? What was wrong with the old one that you replaced it ?

So you're still chasing a problem that was there before you put the new bit's in ? Sorry but I think it's time to get a professional in to have a look , something's not right with this .

well... you wouldnt beleive what the problem was... i was surfing the net for a couple of days trying to find the problem when i found alot of sites that said there SHOULD be 12volts there, so i check the coil and got a reading of 11.96 volts, so i thought close enough (being a new battery) and didnt think anything of it, until the other day i decided to put the battery in another car just to give it a bit of a boost, then put it back in the mini and got 12.39 volts at the coil, and guess what...... it started first pop. so who would of though .4 volts would make a difference.

Thanks for your help anyway guys.

Cheers

Rikki

P.S. is going now just gotta finish my dash now.
