 Post subject: Brake adjuster removal ?

Please help - does anyone know how to remove the cam type brake adjusters out of the hub - need to replace a worn one - i think it is stuffing up whole brake system

take the brake shoes and the adjuster wedges out, and the adjuster screws out through the hole in the frame thingy on the brake side of the backing plate, away from the car

pesky buggers they are :twisted:

Are you using the made for adjuster spanner/socket of just a normal spanner or shifter :twisted: . The adjuster can be a problem as they rust them selves in..so when you try and get them out you round the end..Not Good...Spray with plenty of WD from both side..soak itr real good and try again

When you get it out..check the other end also.. but it maybe a good idea to get replacement anyway..do Both sides while your at it!!!!
and when you are replacing it..get a tub or copper grease and smear a good amount on the thread..and you will never have a trouble agian :wink:

When i turn it just spins round and round, do i have to hold the inside bit with vice grips ?

Gafmo is talking about REAR adjusters.... :shock: :lol:
There is a kit to replace the front cam ones I think, but I just went and found another backplate with good cams in. :wink:
