Ok, ive dealt with the Honda Civic disc brake conversion and it WILL NOT WORK with my 12in Superlite Wheels. I would need to run the setup as if I had 10in wheels....

This is purely because the inside diamater of my 12in Superlites is strangely the same as 10 inch wheel...

Just wondering if any 1 has ever seen or done a disc conversion which will slip straight under a 10in wheel. As in not having to machine the disc down in diameter to fit?

There is one car where you could get the parts you need for the conversion but I can't remeber the name.....I know it but dont remember......um.......whats it called again?

A lot less hassle.

Pickup a BRAND NEW set for about $1500
A set in need of a rebuild will be anywhere from $400 to $800.

Fits under 10" Rims.

Cooper disc brakes (Not S brakes) will fit, but have been told they arent much better than a properly setup set of drum brakes.

You will be lucky to pick a complete Cooper S set up for $400-
$800-$1200 is more like it. Hardly worth the aggro by the time you fix them. Buy NEW. 8)

According to the MM site, Ford Fiesta (NOT Festiva) calipers fit easily into 10" wheels with Mini 8.4" rotors turned down to 7.9". You still need the disc brake type swivel hubs though, and calipers are rare here, so hardly worth it.

re the old 7" Cooper brakes, they are a lot better than some people say. I had them in a Clubby auto :shock: with metal king pads and a servo, they stopped fine. :wink: But new 7" rotors now are only available from MiniMania in US.
If you find some, the swivel hubs (nothing else) are same as a Cooper S.

We have a set of early Honda Citys in 10" Speedy hotwires on Daytona the Clubby, yes they fit (just). These calipers are 110mm bolt spacing... not 140mm like a Civic. Pads & rotors are different too.

Don't uses Civics, the pads will overhang the rotor on the inside and wear a step in themselves...

Now he's picked up a set of new rotors, needs some new pads, and seals and a complete set of "S" discs for well under a grand.....

Hmmm, bought any lately though.. I can name 2 people that got burnt on here recently buying S/H crap.
One gave up and bought again, NEW... the other just about spent $1500 by the time they got on the car working, with `last skim' rotors and a set of antique pads I gave him. :lol:

ps. I've been accumulating parts for a set too, part old and part new... :wink:

If you check the rear of the rims you will notice that it does actually increase in diameter.... this is where the rotor will sit.
I have camira brakes, but now I have to make a packer to the front of my driving flanges (not just a packer tho, it bolts to the studs and then another 4 studs hold the wheel) which is 20mm thick.

We tried Josh's Superlite 12x5s a while back, on the Civics with NO spacers. Fitted OK, track looked a bit puny though. So we put the 25mm `spacers' back on. :wink:
Hey technically they are not spacers, they're bolted to the disc & drive flange... :lol:

Hanra, you must have got early wheels, or something.. :?

Yeah ive thought about the $1500 kit but Realy considering it will prolly save a car wrek and Most likely a daily heartattack from losser Drivers then to Me its Worth IT.

I had bought a set of civic discs and calipers and the rotor will just sit inside the mag. There is absoloutley no way the caliper will fit in there. Yes the rear of the mag is bigger but there is still NO WAY they are going to fit!!!

Dunno, i bought these Superlites at the start of 2003 Brand New from a Beaurepairs dealer who had to order them in????

http://www.discpads.com/ have new cooper s rotors for 135 each, is that a decent price... (it's the only one i could find)

it shits me because a mate of mine that has a fiat x1/9 (124 twincam , doc ;) ) only has to pay 23 bucks per rotor...

Hi all us in the Uk do a Ford Fiesta conversion (The Fiesta is a small Hatch back over here) We use either Mk1 or Mk2 calipers and carriers. and the hubs CV from an 8.4 Disc braked mini. We turned down the 8.4" disc to 7.9" and they fit over 10" rims...

Yeah, but the early Fiesta was not sold in Oz. I saw one in Pt Wakefield wreckers about four years ago. But he would only sell the car complete, not just the calipers. :(

I'm trying to assemble an S setup myself. All I need now is a pair of swivel hubs, some new disks and to rebuild the calipers.
