I'm going the Vegas route later this year! Holiday and wedding in one. Been in enough weddings to last me a lifetime.

hehe, i like the way this topic has turned into a discussion about weddings. $30k gets us-

1) Ceremony in St Frances Xavier Cathedral, in the middle of Adelaide
2) Reception at the Old Adelaide Inn, North Adelaide, 100 guests
3) Rings, Wedding dress, Cars, Suits, flowers etc...
4) Honeymoon around Beautiful New Zealand

It definately doesnt take long to add up

Thats not including the $7,500 engagement ring 2 yrs ago

EDIT: 5) photography as well

Nah, my parents have two daughters to pay for as well (when they get married that is), besides, its tradition for the brides parents to pay more  and my fiancee is an only child.

I said we spent under 5k, it was probably more like 2k back then.

If 5k back then is 20k now, that would make my $500 weekly wage then, $2000 now

And that's why I told my other half - if we eventually decide to get married, we're eloping. Marriage and honeymoon in one.

Ahh well , since this has turned into a wedding thread , our's was almost 2 years ago and cost just under $10G all up including photographer , gown and reception for 100 people . We did a lot of it (invitations , scrolls for the church , decorations) ourselves , most of the professionals just design and print them with basic equipment anyway and we had a bit of fun making them . The church was my families church (we were the 5th generation married there and 6th on the site , the original church burnt down in the 1800's) . The gown was close to $2G and the reception was at a professional reception center 500 m from the church . Also , our florist "loaned" us a lot of her stock and decorated the reception center with it rather than pay the exorbinate price they wanted to charge . As for the bridal cars , best man and grooman happened to have matching white Falcon wagon's and we used the MC's Cooper for the flower girls/page boy . It looked brilliant , big cars for the big people and little car for the little people . A wedding doesn't have to be expensive , just don't hand huge amounts over to people to organise it for you , also , tell the reception centre you're hiring it for a party and you'll decorate it yourself , wedding's seem to have a different pricing scale ....

Imagine spending 30k and having to be the first to leave the party!

Beefa it ain't a competiton to have the cheapest wedding or the most expensive. The fact the you say you did it for less that 5k is great, but you know full well, most people wouldn't have the connection to do it that cheap. Oh and by the way.... i still don't believe you are only going to spend 5k

Cheers

Aaron

Well each to ther own Aaron but thats what our wedidng is costing us. The most expensive part for us is the steam train>>>$1020.00, thats fully decorated with a big banner on the train with our names. As I said before we have all the connections and the inlaws are helping us out a lot, thus the reason for keeping it under 5K :D

Its not my problem if people seem to want to spend 30K on one day when they need only spend 10K and the rest on a house deposit or trip around the world...

we are both already buying the house (bought it 2 yrs ago) and both went on a trip around the world together 5 yrs ago, seems getting married is the next logical step.
