He has a point..much less stuffing around stripping the block..especially if there might not be something wrong with it..

Get the head done then put it back together..you'll be ready to come on the cruise in feb ;)

Yeah that sounds like it might be the go.

What is the best method for checking flatness of the block?

Dunno about best, but get a big-ass, brand new (in good condition that is) steel ruler.

Clean up all the face of the block and rest the edge of the ruler along the block across all the pots in a number of places....then do some checks across the block....if you can see light under the edge or it wont sit flat...then...you may need your block decked.

Well a big Thanks must go out to Graham Russell!!!!

On Saturday morning I gave him a call to see if I could drop off my head to get checked for flatness and possibly leave it there to get decked. He said no problem come round.

So upon arriving, after driving up and down the street looking for the driveway for a little while, I finally met THE MAN. He was happy to help and seems to love to chat about all things mini/motor sport and history. It was great.

After inspecting the head, he didn't seem to think there was too much wrong with it, although the gasket had been leaking. He suggested getting it decked just to be sure. Thinking he'd say leave it here and come back next week, instead says take the rockers off and I will do it now for you. Awsome.

Well when he put it on the mill the truth came out. The head was slightly warped. Ended up having to take a 5 thou off just to get it square. Here are the results.

Now just have to buy an ACL head gasket and put everything back together.

BIG THANKS TO GRAHAM.
