Can someone explain why their is two types of chrome mould trim and what each should be on?

I have seen plain profile trim (as used on J_A_M) and also a swanky 'shaped' profile trim (mainly seen on roundies).

Anton.

The shaped stuff looks sweet. Wish I knew which was which before using the plain on my own Mini.

Jam I think one strip is plain and the other has two rises with one close hard up against the guards made of plastic and just pushes on.

the fancy stuff is for the cooper cars. If you want a std car as you seem to be intending then the plain stuff it is. Use what you want. personally i have the fancy stuff on the van and the plain on the clubman.
