Mind you there are quite a fer "Cooper Ss" around that are not the thing but they sure look the part. They are still something worth owning.

Yeah we've got one. 8) We get the driving experience and the looks, for 1/2 the real price.
As you say, good replicas are appreciating, too.
Worth the price in S parts these days.

Mk1 Cooper S production started in August 1965 with car number YKG2S2501 , the last car , number YKG2S25486 , being produced in April 1969 , making a total of 4985 cars . Mk2 Cooper S production started in May 1969 , with car number YG2S4501 , through to the last car , number YG2S42919 , in July 1971 , a total of 2418 , with the last 113 cars produced having "burst proof" door locks and the lift up door handles....a grand total of 7403 Cooper S , if my maths are correct . The 1969 model didn't have any ID plate fitted at all , it only had the chassis number stamped into the radiator shroud panel . From 1970 onwards they had an ADR Compliance plate fitted . This plate has the chassis number and date of despatch from the holding yard to the selling dealer on it ( not the date of manufacture !!!!) ...info courtesy of Rover Australia ...........cheers

for some reason I always thought my car was number 543 off the line (YG2S4543) but starting at 501 I guess that makes it number 43 - so it is quite an early one!! explains all the mk1 stuff in it I spose...

and it doesn't have a compliance or ID plate for all the reasons already stated by everyone else... When I was first looking at it I was worried about that but the seller gave me an aussie Mini magazine from a few years ago - put out by FF&R I think it was - that explained all about it...
