Can someone explain for me and everyone else where the center oil pickup bolts onto, preferably post pics on where it goes on the block.

A central oil pick up is bolted to the original oil pick up spot in the gearbox,,,it is simply a smaller "sock" type strainer & pipe assy as opposed to the big "basket" type strainer as oer original

These central oil pick up pipes are meant to help keep oil pressure whilst undergoing rather hard right hand cornering where the oil would normally wash over to the left hand side of the gearbox 7 away from the original oil pick up

the central type pick up is placed more "central" & therfore tends to still be submerged in oil whilst any cornering is undertaken

They can & do tend to get blocked up with crud more often than std pick up tho

more suited to race mini applications than road, but then lots of people do fit them to road cars also, probably in the belief that it will save their engine from starving of oil around right hand corners & often without the knowledge that they do tend to block up with crud very easilly

basically its what matt said but you take the entire old system out all the ipes and the basket at the bottom and replace it with a new pipe that is bent in a different way so it goes to the same place but then takes a left hand turn under the gears and lays on the bottom, so the pick up and fitment place is the same its just a longer pipe basically.

the old ones from mini clinic used to be good. but the mini spares ones
are POS

you can't see it from the outside. pull one apart and you will understand.

A little bird told me the "All new" design oil pickups don't work as well as the older design? No idea you didn't hear it from me... Matters not as I have an older design Suddenly I sense it is worth more??

You really don't need to "strip" the box. Its been a couple of years since I did the last one but it only took a couple of extra hours added during an transfer gear rebuild.

IMHO you really don't have to worry about clogging these days. With synthetic oil, regular maintenance etc ours cars don't really get a chance to build up a lot of gunk in the gearbox.

The standard pickup screen was designed to face 100K odd miles of standard non caring abuse in an ordinary commuter. If this is you then don't worry about the central pickup. With decent tyres and suspension and the factory system you'll be amazed how often the guage shows zero pressure during "normal" cornering ...especially if you live in Roundabout Central (Canberra).

The differences I noticed between the minispares pick up and the one from minisport was apparent ten years ago when I bought one and compared it with the other. The difference I noticed was in the making of the gauze filter on the end, the minispares one was pretty poorly made. Basically it was just crimped together with spot welds, it didn't look very professional at all.
I changed mine out for a minisport one and chalked it up to experience...
