BAAHHAAHAA.
yes, but look at tray in the "chocked for safety sequence" - is there any oil in there?
On the last rebuild I managed to have it drip free for about a month, then a slight drip started on the rod change. Installed a double seal, a bit of sorting here and there and now it has the slightest trace which hardly ever drips.

At the back of the tray is just some residue and dust from previously creating a shadow.
Normally on the mini previously, and the other two ***cough- renaults-cough***, I had kitty litter in the tray to help absorb the oil drips!

Most of the time i only want to jack up / use stands when i want to take the wheels off.
Otherwise I just use metal ramps. Does anyone know of a cheap/diy system to raise the car like this and then remove the wheels :?:
(apart from the Ultimate Garage thread) :( no money

I've been toying with a Formula 1 stype jack for a while. No good for most cars because of chassis height and suspension droop, but I reckon something might be possible.

Basically an 'L' shaped thingamy. SHort side goes under car, pull long side down to the ground and hey presto the whole front end is in the air. Not sure on the pivot points....maybe lower arms? That should be strong enough, and would take care of droop. Trouble is they're so low the long side of the 'L' would hit the front of the car before the short end was under the car far enough....

Doogie - they were indeed. I didn't make them, I bought them off ebay for $70 odd dollars.

At the end of the day, it is just lengths of angle cut and welded with marine ply top tech-screwed on

The only ones I have seen for sale have been in the UK not out here and cost several thousand dollars:
www.restorationramps.co.uk

They have a version which have scissor-lift jacks either side which enable you to raise the car up and remove the wheels whilst on the ramps

smac - the works BMC team in england developed a quick lift jack for endurance races (spa 24hr etc) which used two lifting points below the bumper (but the bumper mounting points) and a portable trolley much as you described. There is a photo in at least one of the Brian Moylan books I have at home.

Several people have asked for plans or do I sell them - The answer is no. I have no way of producing autocad type drawings but if someone here has, I have no objections to someone coming out, measuring it up and producing autocad type plans provided they publish them here as pdf's for all to share.

I know minis aren't in the heavyweight class but considering how high the car is off the ground, I don't see that much in the way of cross bracing on those ramps. In the forwards/backwards plane there's one bar .... and nothing in the left/right plane.
But the concept is good one. Saves bending over the darned things all the time!
