Cheers,

Whats to organise :?:

NSWMCC may be organising some sort of user pays gig with AVESCO for a parade at the mount. The logistics of organising something like this will be made difficult by the chaos that Bathurst experiences around October (where does "200" Minis and their drivers/passengers stay when everything is booked out from one year to the next....well away from Bathurst I would suggest....I have my campsite booked  ). It remains to be seen if NSW will open the event to other clubs/interested persons...time will tell....hope they give people plenty of warning...

I have suggested to some that a celebration, gathering, cruise, BBQ near the track on the Sunday might be a good thing.....(obviously, staged from somewhere like the Blue Mtns....say). Yeah....Hydro Majestic full of Mini folk (ya dreaming Mick!!)

25th Anniversary for the 1071 has my interest tho....1965ish is not 25 years so it must be when you picked up yours :?: Would be great to see you put her back together and still run the Traveller...Cheers, Mick :D

Sorry if you think MCCNSW is organising something, we are not, unfortunately. We got a big fat piss off from AVESCO, they did not want to even talk to our president. we would not want anyone to have to pay to participate in such a venture. I started to look into this last year, with permission of the committee to use the MCCNSW name and worked out all the things we needed to do.the biggest risk was always that AVESCO would not be interested, and guess what? risk realised.

if there is someone out there claiming to be organising something on behalf of MCCNSW and intends to charge people for the privelege, then they had better not use the MCCNSW name without consulting the committee. Call, write or email the president or secretary of the club (www.miniclub.com.au) if you know of anyone claiming to be MCCNSW.

from what Watto said in this thread, it is someone independent who is organising something on behalf of a commercial venture. good luck to them, because if they have managed to get Tony Cochrane to accept a fee for letting a parade of minis out there, at least he listened to their $$$$, and its better than nothing at all. i won't say that i am not disappointed that the clubs were not able to get first option, but i also not surprised.

As to your idea of a cruise from the blue mtns to Bathurst, let's see what we can do independently of the commercial ventures and have a little fun !

Sorry, I do not necessarily think it is NSWMCC, just assumed because of their close proximity, the fact that they did something for the 25th :?: and their enviable Motorsport heritage....so please, don't put my assumption together and get the wrong impression.

Agree that any Minis at Bathurst in 2006 is better than none.

I suggested the Blue Mtns because I happened to be thinking of them at the time .....but the acomm pressure is also felt in a wide radius...especially for teams with bloody helicopters

I smell Mini Monte :!: ....again....the council would probably need to be contacted to come up with a suitable venue (not to mention media coverage).....hmmmmm......Racecourse Road where the Army Depot is might be a good place to work from....just thinking out loud....

The evil part of me just got a flash of an Italian Job style Mini assault on Bathurst from all sides.....think I need to go and have a lie down

Well just to throw my 2 cents worth in, Mr T Cochrane only understands one thing and thats money, he has no knowledge about the heritage of Bathurst or Motorsport in general, he comes from a management/promotions background IMG and does not and will not give a flying fig for anything else but his product V8 supercrap. I really think the best way of dealing with him is to embarass him by doing a mini decends on Bathurst from all sides(Mini Monte) and get media coverage on Today Tonight, ACC and even CH10 and stop at the gates in large numbers and then leave in protest at Cocheads lack of interest in the history of Australian motorsport. Encourage a campaign of letters of protest from all Mini Clubs and associations to AVESCO(or whatever its called this year) get as many people to write to them as we can and show mr Cochead how many people he will loose if he denies the Mini its due respect, no bloody nascar V8 supercrap has won the Mote Carlo rally and Bathurst like a mini and dont forget to flood Ch 10 as well with the letters

Jon, obviously you are not a member of TCs fan club :!: :D

I am not all that fussed about it myself....Minis in the first 9 places was a marvellous achievement.....40 years is a milestone (or millstone) and the 50th will really be something to make a fuss over :!:

To me its just an excuse to pay a little homage and maybe have some fun with Minis... :D .

I think if people in Minis get too excited about something most people at the event don't have a clue about....then it is likely to reflect badly on the Mini community :D

Not exactly on this topic but a while back ten did a feature on the toranas and how dominant they were at bathust etc etc no mention of minis being the most successful overall  seems a pretty blaring ommision to me.

I figure the current event is called V8 Supercars and so ten won't be really interested in telling every one a 4 cylinder with 1275cc beat all comers and filled the top 9 places. The people that watch V8s (in general) probably don't want to know that the accestors of thier cars were beaten by a car with an engine with half as many cylinders and displacement that belongs on motorbikes it is just so much against the idea of making a car go faster by throwing a bigger and bigger donks at it...

These are just opinions so I could be way off but it appears to me V8s in general would rather forget this sort of embarrisment and keep telling us impressive horsepower figures and then wondering why P plater go knock themselves off in high powered cars .

Ok that's my rant over and is my opinion only

Great to see you on Ausmini :!: a big warm welcome to Rae :D

(Hint: UPPERCASE is considered SHOUTING on the net  )

Fantastic news about Bathurst too....the more people who are possibles the better because it will be quite a committment (and great buzz) for most people amongst the thousands of V8 fans :D

Alright Mick, you get it organised and we'll reprise the 25th anniversary run in the 1071.

So you are talking about the 25th aniversary where the Broadspeed turned up and the 1966 Cup was on display on top of a Mini....are you saying that ACT Mini Car Club members (you in the fire breathing 1071 with the 1330 and Weber poking through bonnet) rendezvoused at Bathurst with NSW MCC people :?:

I did that lap in 1991, which was organised by Alan Hagarty and a couple of others from MCCNSW, but it was open to anyone and everyone in a Mini, no club memberships were necessary. People came from everywhere. We still hope that will be the case if this other mob gets it off the ground, but we'll wait and see.
