what is the best Diff ratio for a 1275 with 10inch wheels for hwy/fwy driving?

Expect somewhere up around $500. If you get one cheaper, let me know, PLEASE!

The 3.44 diff in mine with 12" rims is well... I hate it! Although it's the best cross between accel and cruizing, because I do heaps of HWY stuff, it's no chop. 2.9 diff me up! Next time the engine is out for any reason, a 2.9 will go in, for sure!

I know someone who MAY have a 2.9 out of an MPi Rover. He removed it to fit a 2.75! Now he can drive to Adelaide withot filling up - he has the MPi tank in one side and a Cooper S RH tank as well. But my van blows him away 0-60 sprints.

The Moke has an Auto with 3.5? diff. Auto's don't have 1:1 drop gears. I calculated it out and the MOke running 185/60 R13 tyres with the auto is the equivalent of a 165/70R10 on a 3.2 diff manual Mini/Moke. So the gearing should be where i want it.

The van is 3.44 and 165/70R10. To low for the highway. Maybe some day I'll fit a 3.2

All the (old) autos were 3.26:1 diff ratio, but the undergeared drop gears made it 3.76:1 overall from motor to wheels. same an a M850-Cooper 997-998, - Mini Deluxe was.:wink:

Yeah, that's the right numbers. I couldn't remember them off the top of my head. It's the same gearing in my 1275 A+ Metro box. So with the approx 10% larger rims it drops the revs about 10%. Which is what I wanted. :)

Anybody wondering, NO- the auto diff's 3.26 CW/P set will NOT fit in a manual..

3600rpm @100km/h with 12" rims and 3.44 diff. As far as i'm concerned, 12" and 10" won't change it a great deal at all.

Actually, 1275s are bad news between 4000 and 5000 due to the crank's vibration harmonics.
Like Josh said, just put a shorter diff in and rev the nuts off it. 8)
