Hindsight's such a wonderful thing. He needed to get a roadworthy so I had to wait.
The owner rang me during that week to tell me I could pick it up and that the guy doing the roadworthy wanted to buy it (he probably made a better offer) but being a 3 hour drive and I was heading down that way anyway at the weekend, I did the mature thing and was patient AND PAID THE PRICE

A learning experience that taught me if you really want something ya better grab it!

especially with minis...with stuff like the tradingpost you pretty much need to call within 1 or 2hrs of the paper hitting the stands on thursday morning to get any of the good stuff...especially reasonably priced minis...gone that morning usually :P

to be completely pragmatic.... and taking each style as "off the production line", without swapping engines/brakes around

CLUBMAN

body pros: bigger engine bay, better seats
body cons: more prone to rust
engine pros: none really
engine cons: pooey rod change gearbox (yeah yeah, early ones excepted), later ones had emission control which robbed some power

ROUNDIE

body pros: less prone to rust
body cons: less room in the engine bay
engine pros: remote change
engine cons: none really

I don't think one has real benefits over the other... it all comes down to preference - I've made my bed...

wow.. i never knew there was a rational argument to this question... :)

I like roundy trim better, the Clubby is too claustrophobic with those dirty great big dash pads <edit> and tombstone seats.
Roundy feels much bigger inside... :D
And the parcel tray on a roundy is better for storing stuff, both sides.
And the instruments on a Clubby may be in front, but they are poorly positioned to see, unless seat is right forward.
There, I'm done... so flame me! haha :P

Ohhh Tim started it now :P

Cause I own a Clubby I'm prejudiced and will say CLUBBYS ARE BETTER.

We have a Deluxe and a Clubby now the goods and bads:
Clubby is smoother and more comfy to drive.
Deluxe is better on fuel.

Clubby has easier seats on the back.
Sore back in the Deluxe after half an hour (low back seats)

Clubby is tough looking.
Deluxe is cute looking.

All up, Clubby is better to drive, Deluxe looks better....tough decision

Clumman:
Pro: engine space, "modern" dash/interior, safety improvements, seats
Cons: not the classic look, & some were blighted with ADR emissions

Roundie:
Pro: the look
Cons: everyone telling you they used to have a Cooper S, body even older & more tired, crappy door handles (except some "K"s)

Had to rush out to fight a fire, just got back to see some interesting posts.
It appears and I'm glad it does, come down to personal preference, I just wanted to be sure. It looks like I will be driving a roundie at some stage and have my wife blow the doors off me in her clubman just like Lynda does to Damo!

OK MODERATORS, YOU CAN NOW REMOVE THIS POST BEFORE IT GETS UGLY

Thankyou all.

"everyone telling you they used to have a Cooper S," You don't have to have a roundie for them to ask is it a Cooper S  :D

What are the real pro's & con's of clubmans versus roundies apart from just personal prefence, the things that REALLY set them apart.
NO ARGUMENTS ON THIS POST PLEASE. :)

K let's do this scientifically. One point for every positive, and loose a point for every negative. Only factual features of the vehicles score - personal preferences are out of scope and have no bearing on the outcome

Clubman:
Pros
    1 Engine bay larger
2 take out the grille and grille support panel for even more room to work on things
    3 more modern interior
0 clubbies look better with solid colours and 12" wheels - persoanl opinion - not counted
    4 better seats
5 Gauges that are right in front of you
    6 Gauges Read in KPH
7 more standard equipment in a clubby
8 Clubbies all had heaters as stock eqquipent
0 tough - Sorry - persoanl opinion - not counted
0 like clubby interior more than roundie - Sorry - persoanl opinion - not counted
    9 sincro on first gear
    10 not a BINI
11 Clubby is smoother and more comfy to drive.
    12 safety improvements

Cons
0 little more dated than the roundies - ?sorry you lost me there? - sorry persoanl opinion - not counted
    1 more prone to rust
    2 rod change gearbox
3 later ones had emission control which robbed some power
0 Would you sleep with an ugly woman ? - Sorry - persoanl opinion - not counted
0 instruments on a Clubby may be in front, but they are poorly positioned to see - Sorry - persoanl opinion - not counted
0 not the classic look - persoanl opinion - not counted

Round Nosed
Pros
0 more classic - Sorry - persoanl opinion - not counted
0 more thought and style - persoanl opinion - not counted
0 I really love the very early roundie trims - persoanl opinion - not counted
0 suit the more classic styling - persoanl opinion - not counted
0 spotlights always looks better on a roundie - persoanl opinion - not counted
    1 less prone to rust
    2 remote change
    0 they're awesome - Sorry - persoanl opinion - not counted
0 cute - Sorry - persoanl opinion - not counted
0 you really dont ever need to shift down into 1st at speed...or atleast i've never had to - Sorry - persoanl opinion - not counted
0 I like roundy trim better - Sorry - persoanl opinion - not counted
3 Roundy feels much bigger inside... - [with open dash it is, so I'll give you this one as a fact not just an opinion]
4 parcel tray on a roundy is better for storing stuff
    5 not a BINI
6 Deluxe is better on fuel.
0 the look - Sorry - persoanl opinion - not counted

Cons
1 Less room in the engine bay
2 Older so have had longer to rust
3 you need to take the grill off a roundie JUST to change the oil filter
    0 they're TOO awesome - Sorry - persoanl opinion - not counted
4 Sore back in the Deluxe after half an hour (low back seats)
5 everyone telling you they used to have a Cooper S
6 body even older & more tired
    7 crappy door handles

Scores

Clubman scores 12 - 3 = 9
Roundie scores 5 - 7 = MINUS 2

Seems like there is an aweful lot of positive opinions on roundies but not too many factual advantages to back them up.

I declare the Clubman to be the better vehicle but I don't give a flying fig which one you choose to drive. I choose to reserve my riticule for commo drivers

Cheers Dat

The trading post ads appear on the website the day before. I remember I saw something I liked, rang the guy, went round, and got it. The following day the paper came out and he said some guy abused him for selling the item beforehand.
You have to be quick. :D

give em both to the stig and let them do a story on them on top gear. then you'll see...

...clubbies are the better of the two minis.

and what is this fighting between mini owners, i thought the battle was between VW beetles and minis.
but i guess we all know the correct answer on this forum  :D 8)  :!:
