1. i want to keep the very best fuel/milage ratio on my car, whats safe to change (for instance carby) to keep it good so its not sucking fuel like a bucket with a hole in it ?

2. what do i need to make my clubby 1100 into a push buttons tart when i transfer to a roundnose... is that even possable ?

You realise as soon as someone says "go back to a single 1.25 SU" for better fuel economy and you do it, a week later you'll be asking "how do I get more power from it?"

Its possible and you just bypass tyhe starter part of the ignition barrel to a button running a relay (assuming you want to start your car, not make it a tart.

and btw when i say push button i mean it has to be legal

easy to make it push button i suppose...

and a good tune will sort out your fuel consumption

Push button pretty damn easy to steal, just a wire to the coil from 12 volts somewhere and it's as simple as a push of a button. Not too good an idea methinks.....

They are pretty cool though, so retro.

If you just had it operating the solenoid as usual though, that would be cool, and you could still kill switch or alarm it up that way..

hmm ok, cos i was hoping to have it via RFID, so basicallyRFID would disable the alarm/immobiliser and unlock the doors, hten all id have to do is hop in and push the button... and when leaving push it again (or perhaps use a switch for on and off), then when leaving have the RFID as a global button as well (shut my windows/sunroof, lock my doors, alarm and immobilise)

I didn't even know it was illegal to have push button start. I have just rigged my car up with it. I have taken off (well it fell off really) the bottom right wire to the ignition barrel and wired that through a push button and then back to the ignition barrel. You still need to turn the ignition on with the key and then press the button. Is that setup legal?

You can upgrade the exhaust system with either a good set of LCBs (1 3/4 for an 1100) and a RC40 muffler to provide free flowing exhaust. This will increase your power and economy.

If you want to go further to tuning for economy and you are doing head work if I remember correctly fitting larger exhaust valves in relation to the inlet valves will give you better fuel economy. A general port and polish will also help, some inlet manifold work, a better flowing air filter. Raising the compression ratio can also help.

A lot of the modifications that increase power can also increase fuel economy if you don't really demand the extra power your engine is creating (but who does that ).

So economy comes down to driver behaviour as much as anything.

Get Vizard's yellow book it has a section(s) on tuning for economy, but to start with some of his best mods were extractors and muffler, and less restrictive air filter and perhaps inlet manifold. Also if I remember correctly SU carbs are near the best for fuel economy. A dyno tune will also be able to set your car up so that it is running at peak efficientcy, a carb running rich or lean will really knock your fuel economy.

i've got an 1100 with a 1.5" carb and i went from eden hills to brickworx to mallala to forest range on half a tank...

lovely....

the more daily driven minis on the road the better i say
