Hi guys and gals this should probably go in my gallery so Mods move it if it needs to go.

My Midget did a gearbox two days before Christmas, it was expected as my other half bought the car for me and haggled it from $9000 to $6000 just wish it was later rather than sooner. (I'm a lucky boy but I do work on all the other halfs minis) always a price to
pay.

Anyhow I wondered down to the mini cave today and finally pulled it out so I can rebuild the box.

Image

The Midget share an Austin A-series motor with the mini but uses it in a convertional way.

Image

Just sharing as I know a few will be interested and I'll put after shots up later to show
the tidy up.

Image

I thought I would have to paint the engine bay but after some serious
gresse removal and a polish I was happy with the results.
When I do the whole lot it should look ok with a freashly painted motor.

All tidied up waiting for more work to be done tomorrow

cheers.

considered a celica 5 speed instead of that one?? given the originality of your other cars, probably not...

my dad has one of those boxes in one of his minors and is forever having trouble with it, his mate just bought him an early corolla 5 speed - never even knew they existed

It will be original, Have investigated the celica box and the cons win so far but we'll see.

It is much cheaper to rebuild as is and I don't race or thrash it (to much).

I have rebuilt the front end suspension and done a shock conversion in the rear.
Rear Damper $280 each shock conversion $130 total I couldn't not do it.

still after an original speedo as mine if from a different MG. MG places do a exchange
but not with my speedo and charge a huge deposit if buying a newy. I don't understand
why they just don't charge $300+ instead of saying 130 for the speedo and several hundred deposit strange.

Yes going to reco mine the only difference is the needle and am currently borrowing one from a mates midget which is up for sale. The car for sale is in pieces, lots and lots of pieces under a tarp at the back of his shed.

I'll get my hands on the right one someday.

I'm so glad I didn't buy it for $10k then. Even with doing the box up, it was still a good buy for you originally.

Glad to see it will be on the road soon.
Regards
Kevin.

Kevin

It drove superbly from August to dec 22 and is a great little car. Even better when cleaned up painted and looking pretty.
