Ladies, Gentlemen - Please find the following details on an event we have confirmed at this years V8 Supercar Bathurst round from October 5th - 8th.
PRESS RELEASE -
Muscle Car Events confirmed today Shannons are the naming rights sponsor in their annual Bathurst Support Event this year entitled Shannons ?Mini Conquers the Mountain?.
An enormous showcase of all Mini?s celebrating the 40th Anniversary of the Mini win at the legendary Mount Panorama circuit.

Muscle Car Event?s Todd Martin said ?Shannons are long time supporters of our events and we hope the event brings continued awareness and business of the Shannons brand and the services Shannons provide?. Martin added ?Auto Fan Media?s publication ?The Mini Experience? will give added exposure to the event as the bible for Mini owners not only here in Australia but overseas?.
?The club scene with Mini owners is very professional and that?s where we?ll find the majority of the entrants for the event. Although we allow only 100 cars for track time many more Mini and BMC / Leyland models are welcome to be entered in the event including displays, dinners and the added value of going to Bathurst during the annual V8 Supercar event?.

The 4 day event will attract genuine/original cars including Cooper and Cooper S / Mini 1000 / 1100 / Deluxe / 850 / K / Broadspeed and Clubman GT with period mag wheels accepted. Martin confirmed each accredited track time Mini will receive period magnetic race door numbers which will become great memento?s of the event plus tickets to the Official Welcome Dinner, 4 Day General Entry to the V8?s, National Motor Racing Museum entry, secure accommodation for the cars offsite and Muscle Car Events also offers camping style accommodation in a venue booked exclusively for Mini owners.

of course they are interested if there is payment involved, as i am sure there is with these guys. i've said it before about TC that he is only interested in $$$$. shame the Chinese told them to bugger off. What is the entry price?

disappointed that they would limit it to 100 cars on the track and only "genuine/original" cars. Could you actually find 100 truly "genuine/original" minis anyway?

but happy that there is something going on. good luck with it guys and anyone who goes. if its not to pricey, i might consider taking the 850.

Gents, it is quite strange we have a business name as Muscle Car Events, but as i'm sure you'll understand the focus each year when we do the Heritage stuff at Bathurst is on the Colours and Stripes stuff from the late 60''s early 70's. We also manage Classic Adelaide, The Muscle Car Masters plus our own events nationally and are acutely aware of the history involving not only Muscle Cars from the big 3, but the first generation of Series Production - hence the fact there was no point in paying more money to the Government for another business name........
to come is the event overview as asked - WE ASK POTENTIAL ENTRANTS TO CONTACT US INDIVIDUALLY -
Cheers

No wonder AVESCO and everyone else we contacted were being evasive every time we tried to contact them to organise something similar - obviously it is the $$$$'s that count.

Last time we did it in 1991 it was a fun thing, a heap of mini's on track, it was organised by MCCNSW & was a drive up & back in one day event. I say boycott the event, its a money making excersice & seems to have little intrest in the mini.

Bob,
Sorry to have gotten off on the wrong foot with you regarding the event at Bathurst.
We (meaning myself and my wife) have for the last 5 years provided the Heritage Parades at Bathurst, initially dealing with Holden and Ford, then through IMG and last year dealing directly with AVESCO. We have in the past zeroed back to Anniversary dates using either Torana or Monaro or Commodore and last year it was Fords Hardtop Revenge plus the GT Cortina win from 1965. This year we have proposed to Avesco at a great risk to change tack and focus on Mini's and particularly those that have a relationship with Bathurst from the early period. You are quite right suggesting that whoever you spoke to regarding doing something at Bathurst regarding Mini's was evasive and the answer was they probably didn't have an answer. As you would understand AVESCO only took over the actual promoting and Operations at Bathurst last year and many are still learning plus having to take on so many other events at the same time (don't think i'm standing up for them for one moment though!) therefore they really aren't motorsport people - but Event Managers. Having said this Bob it's taken us 5 years, we are based in Townsville some 2500klms away and have a real passion for Bathurst and the history of what these cars and drivers did in their period. We have been planning this for some time, but getting an answer you want from a company like AVESCO is extremely difficult. We do this along with other events around Australia full time and its sometimes a struggle to step outside the comfort zone of a weekly pay packet - and you are right in saying it's money making thing because Bob its what i do. Doogie, Bob i'm sure many Mini enthusiasts would agree reading this that you wouldn't work for free and when someone changes direction on a specific event for Mini owners, yet on a public forum a member states an event should be boycotted without contacting me directly then it shows that perhaps Mini owners don't look outside their boundaries. I know Craig Watson is really happy we're doing this and i appreciate his knowledge and support through the Magazine - another bloke who's happy we're doing this is Harry Firth who you are more than welcome to contact at home on 0359791912 - he has been to 4 events we've done and as you both would know Harry doesn't suffer fools -
Any problems you may have with what we are trying to acheive at Bathurst (which is to promote Mini and their investment potential along with a wider spread of knowledge) then please contact me directly -
Cheers
Todd Martin
