Hi everyone I am feeling a bit down in the dumps as my 1963 mini cooper keeps breaking down. Mum decided the other day that enough was enough and said she would buy me a Toyota corolla to drive around in. Now I have it I can say that it SUCKS and nothing compares to a mini!!!

Jeremy my mini has caused me so much pain to beguin with I was ripped off by a guy who said he would finish it off for 10 grand... little did I know it would take 9 months when he said 2 weeks and that he was doing it all wrong and that it would all have to be done all over again. Went to another guy who ripped me off again but got it driving. Dang specialists... ($35 for 4 nuts and bolts what is that all about) IT IS AMAZING HOW FAR SOMEONE WILL GO FOR A MINI THEY LOVE...

I just wish I had of went into this knowing as much as I do now and had someone to stand up for me... people like this believe they can manipulate 17 year old girls into thinking they are doing everything to help them out.

Now I am with a nice old guy who I met randomly on the road. He helps me out and never charges excessively and has a huge collection of secondhand parts... only problem is I am outta dough.

His temp gauge went the other week, he begins showing hot after 10 mins or so... only problem is the radiator isn't over heating. So the other week when I was driving home and my headlights stopped working and my horn stopped and then my Speedo when down to 0m/h I was devastated... (what has the Speedo got to do with electrical problems???) And to top things off Jeremy has been making a ticking noise which gets louder and takes power away when he gets hot. So yeah other then that he's great

Sometimes I wonder whether I should of bought a rover... but I always dreamed of having a real mini cooper when I was young. And I live to make my dreams my reality. I just look at my friends who have the money to travel the world and I have to tell them I can't go with them as I can't afford it. It just makes me wonder whether what I did was right????

wowsers, that sucks! but it cant be that bad, a mini motor is not too complex.

Where are you located? maybe someone here can come have a quick look at

Jess, what state are you in? you should join a club, lots of great people there who know heaps about minis and will want to help you out for the sheer passion of minis.

If you are in NSW join the NSW Mini Car Club.

Plus you now have us to help you out!!

Chin up! it will be worth it in the end. You don't want a rover, more things to go wrong!

Dont stress to much, theres plenty of other things in life more important to stress for!! and as chris said cause theres no computers in mini motors, its all mechanical most problems, once identified are fixable!

but yeah maybbe join a club. there is lots of support out there for mini owners!

plenty of people on this site that'll give you the right info and how much you should be paying on parts.

Put your location in your profile and someone here will be able to help out, or at least point you in the direction of someone who can help you out.

If you are in Sydney, our club meeting is tomorrow night. I'm sure if you came along, there'd be a heap of people only too happy to help you out.

Welcome to the womens club (yes fellas I am a chick, just have a weird nick).

When I first got Beefa (my Clubby) things were always going wrong. When I brought him I didnt want a Clubby I wanted a roundy.
I eventually got fed up with spending money on him and cracked it. I told my fiance I was sick of the car.
He said its an old car you have to expect it.

Once I got things working OK (god knows it takes ages, still doing it) I really got attached to the car. All the hard work is worth it, just takes perserverance, love and a punching bag
I'm now happy with him, regardless of how much I fix him. I love him and he does good....hope Jeremy works out the same way for you too

Don't give up on the Mini. They may give you some trouble from time to time, but they are pretty simple so it's usually not a major affair to deal with. And if you do give up and sell the car you will regret it later and you will be one of those people in the future who will tell stories to other Mini owners about how you "Had a Mini once, it was a great car and I never should have sold it." So save us all the trouble of listening to another one of these stories and keep the car. You will love it more and more the longer you have it. And if for some reason you do part with the Mini please don't tell other Mini owners "it was a Cooper S with a 1380 and 4 turbos that could beat every other car ever made. And that's only in second gear!"
Although I wouldn't blame you for wanting a Toyota. I am currently driving one and it never gives me any problems. But I miss driving the Mini while it's off the road.

Yeah honk your right I am In Queensland... about 1/2 an hour north west of brizzie. (Out near Samford)

You are all right minis are worth it it the end and becides Jeremy is just like me he makes me late for work but without him I am still late... I think he has had a bad influence on me!

Becides I always have a good story to tell about another of his shenanigans.
The other day I was talking to a friend of mine, " Jeremy has been a pain in the butt again, I am getting really sick of his behaviour etc... and my new boss turns around and says Oi is that any way to talk about your boyfriend

In a way he kind of is so no matter how sad he makes me feel... I will still love him (so many tears have been shedover that car!!!)

I am a member of the mini owners club and I do have someone that helps me out with Jeremy when I am at uni in Toowoomba. But as I haven't been to any mini meetings down here, I haven't meet any mini enthusiasts like me here that might be able to help me out.


Anyhow thanks everyone, I feel better now... but I better get going before I am late to work... AGAIN!!!

Samford, great spot. Mount Glorious right there. Awesome roads.

All the latest things you have mentioned are quite minor and things that most mini owners get used to fixing. Quite expensive to get done by a professional.

But there are a few guys around in Bris that I'm sure could help you out. The key is don't being too dependant, learn how fix every problem that comes up. Get people to show you how. It will probably happen again at some point in the cars life.

Another option is to organise a South East Queensland ausmini get together. Put on a BBQ or something invite us all with the proviso that some work gets done on your car.

You're in the right place, you will get looked after here if you have the passion and put in a little effort.

Since buying my mini i think i might have spent around 1600 dollars on mechanical stuff but that is what happens with old cars. Don't get to down on yourself because it is a mini and it has character unlike a corolla
