Hello all,

Well we had Beefa up on the hoist to do the CV's and we noticed that there is more rust then we first thought. Behind the front bumper there is a little on both sides, as well as the usual floor pans which I already knew about.

With the rust in the body, is it easier and cheaper to buy another Clubby body and transplant everything, or just fix the rust that we have found?

I don't really want to sell him, I've grown atteched to him finally

The engine also seems to have some bad oil leaks, even though I have fixed all the ones we found before. Is new oil leaks a sign of a sad engine? Wil it be cheaper to keep fixing the oil leaks or buy a new engine altogether?

Fix the rust. You at least know the car and you might buy a car that has more problem's than you think.

Can't you get spare floor panels from http://www.minispares.com? If they have it, Northern Mini Parts and others in Aus will have access to it...

Should be easier to fix the leaks. They're not necessarilly a sign of anything other than a failed gasket/oil seal. Making sure the crankcase breathers are present and correct might reduce them or slow any re-occourance.

Failing that, keep the oil topped up, ignore the leaks, put down a drip tray where you park at home, and sleep well (better) in the knowledge the the leaking oil is protecting the body where it sticks!

FIx whatever rust you find , then you know beefa's body's good , if you buy another one you may find the new body's just as bad or worse , plus it's a fair bit of work to transfer everything .... As for the oil leaks , just fix them as you find them , just a sign of age and/or wear . Also , just as a check , tighten all the little bolts that join the gearbox to the motor , had a mini at one time that had rattled a few loose and oil was seeping out all the way around , lot of oil leaks with a simple solution . Hopefully beefa's will be too .

OK well the rust repair panels for the floor hopefully wont be too expensive.
What about the rust that we found behind the bumper bar in front of they tyre, can I buy repair panels or anything like that? Or do I just chop it out and hope for the best?

The oil leaks have been an ongoing problem for the past year and a half I have had the car. Every time a new one starts I fix it, then not long after another one starts....its a never ending thing.

How much is a new 1100? I've been seriously thinking of putting a new engine in him for a while...the engine leaks found today have just confimed I will be

Rust is a bitch. You can chase it, and you can whip out the grinder, some fresh metal, and the MIG welder, and do the few patches you need, but remember...

RUST NEVER SLEEPS.

With my daily driver, i'm just trying to igore the rust. She goes fine, doesn't even leak oil, and is comfy and quiet. Rust is too bloody expensive to fix. Turn a blind eye and you'll soon find ignorance is bliss.
