Just been reading an online mini magazine that comes most months (http://www.miniregister.com/index.html) , join up and they send the newsletter each month or so . I came accross this super sexy subframe for a mini produced by Z cars , the mob that do the bike engined mini's . Check out the suspension redesign .....

It's a thing of beauty more than practicality, however would make for an infinite amount of adjustment possibilities. :D

Cool, i want one. NOW. That's the sort of stuff i want to do to a mini. Something different. You see all these 'rodders in Street Machine with fully re-engineered A-arm suspension systems, so why not a Mini?

there's one on ebay at the moment...900GBP...roughly $2000 AUD...ex shipping from the UK :P

fairly radical departure from the stock subframe...if anything broke you'd be in trouble as finding replacements would be tricky i'd imagine...plus you'd need to get it all engineered...too much hassle for what it is IMO...

what do you recon we just geta big container in britain and just stuff it full of bits like these subrfames and curley carbon pimpy bits...

haha...sure...we could do a big shipment of zeemax kits too...would be able to get them for more or less cost...which is only 560 pounds ($1325-ish AUD)

they're sinking one in Sydney very soon. you could sneak in, throw it in your tucker bag, then take it to England, fill her up with Mini kit, and the world is your oyster!

That Z Cars sub frame would be heaps better if they moved the upright (swivel hub) outboard and made the wishbones longer. To reduce single-wheel bump kickback and torque steer the line through the two ball joints (king-pin line) should hit the ground close to the centre of the contact patch of the tyre. 15mm inboard is a typical good number (McLaren F1 for eg) but many front wheel drives have the intersection up to 10mm outboard.

All that would be required is longer steering arms, longer drive shafts and larger offset wheels.

If you are going to go custom, why not do it right.

PS the Ultima kit car in the UK has the same problem only much worse. Great to drive on a race track or even a smooth English road but crap everywhere else. Just ask the drivers who did Targa Tasmania in them. No excuse on a car that costs $160,000 here.

I had heard about that problem with Ultimas, although they don't like you calling them kitcars now, they are hand crafted sportscars...

And do you think Z cars could have found a scruffier looking engine..
