Ok peoples I have just about had enough of this damn mini, everytime I go to put the foot down it dies just before it picks up. So yesterday I took the dashpot off and degreased the inside of it where the jet moves up and down and that was fine.... put some auto transmission fluid back in and the carb had a bit more pick up but it still dies before it revs its lil' head off.............. what does anyone think it could be ............. or is this normal ???????

any help is greatly appreciated ..................

Just a "heads" up no punn intended but I'm getting a different (recoed) head on it soon with some forged rockers and a different set of extractors and twin carbs ....... I just want it to run right . thats all....

Pat

Maybe a thinner oil in the dash pot (guesses) :?:

Oil acts as a dampner to the cylinder rising too fast, the thicker the oil the slower the cylinder will rise...

The thing is it isn't oil it is auto transmission fluid and it is very thin actually ....... at first i thought that it was dirty fluid but it was relitivly clean when I emptyied it out and then replaced the fluid so i dont think that it is the fluid.

Hey Pat it has been some time since i have seen you but i did have the same problem as you got and i fixed it by putting in a richer needle you can also try a light spring but if you think about it the dash pot maybe going up to fast then leans off so a thinker oil is what you may need.

Could be a blocked fuel filter or dodgy fuel in your tank 8)

Check the points gap, too.

Make sure the piston in the carb isn't gummed up.

Nah i had this problem too, its sounds like a flat spot, in which the mixture must be adjusted again, this happened when i put on my 1.5inch ramflo. you realise that when you put ur head on with extracters and what not, your most likely going to need to adjust ur carbie again. i use auto transmission fluid as well, alos sewing machine oil or general purpose oil is good to, obviously you know not to use engine oil as its too thick.

hope this helps

Have you tried running it without any fluid?

Not always the case. I run straight engine oil in my van (standard 1100, 1.25" carb) and the thing runs like a clock. 8)

Nope, runs perfect. 8)

Every engine is different, you run what works best.

Thanks for all the help guys..... the fuel filter I don't think would be blocked beacause it is only a couple of hundred miles old......I've adjusted it a few times now...... with still no luck .........i wind it in all the way then back it off twelve flats........ then i turn it another couple because of the extractors and mild cam....... is this right?

The carbie is a 1.5 and the engine is 998.........

thanks for all the help so far guys...

Pat

I had the same problem with my other mini, turned out to be the points rather than a problem with the dizzy.
