I made it home without running out of petrol, when i left work it was sitting on E and 70kms later when i got home it was about 1 1/2 thickness's of the needle under E!!!!!

I really wasnt ready to run out of fuel yesterday!!!!

I have to agree with Sports850 on this. The ONLY way to really know is to drive until you run out and note where the gauge was at the time. (make sure you have spare fuel with you). As long as your gauge is COLNSISTENT, you'll be able to tell to a fair degree of accuracy.

When the gauge on my van reaches empty, I still have around 100-120km range.

The needle goes well below E before running out, but if the needle starts to rise again (must be a dicky sender) then I have about 20km max left. I ALWAYS carry a spare 10lt in the Mini, and I could write a book about where I have run out of fuel. As long as I've got spare, it is never a drama - well, almost never. There was this one time.....

Our 850's gauge works quite well in that it's quite accurate. But not failsafe. The wire got knocked off the sensor when my wife was loading the boot, and the gauge ready full for several days until she ran out of fuel downtown on Wednesday. Easy to troubleshoot, easy to fix, but a pain in the arse.

didnt know if the vans fuel gauge worked..this is on our way adel-syd, so..every town..we'd stop and put petrol in..usually only like 5-10 bucks in..
hehe..we had no idea how big the tank was, or if the guage works, so we just kept filling it up..hehe
always wondered..can you get a drop tank (like you'd get for a 4wd) for a van?
that'd b cool..then you wouldnt have to stop from like syd-melb for fuel! hehehe!
