OK.. situation. I get in car, flick to reds, press the button, starts like a dream

Second situation. I get in car, flick to reds, press the button and the car feels like it has a flat battery. Starter motor WANTS to tick over, but doesnt

Ideas..? Suggestions. :?

battery may be on it's last legs....
do you find this esspecially on colder mornings

Nah brand new battery. I dont use any of the electricals so it must be getting charge Ok.

It happens hot, cold etc...

My experience is most often dodgy battery contacts get out and give them a wiggle and it starts OK. :wink:

Check the earth wire to body in boot, it's notorious for a bad connection.
Also check the one from clutch cover to RH inner guard.
Best to scrape paint to bare metal where the lug is, a bit of copper grease (antiseize) there and on bolt threads is nice too.

What is that one earthing? Where is the positive end of that one?

When he doesnt start, i clutch start him... is that bad..?? Am i doign the car damage?

I'd say check the earth aswell from starter soleniod to inner wing and battery and or plugs on the back off the key barrel

it 'bridges' the earth from the body to the engine - your engine is all rubber mounted, about the only metal to metal connection is the accelerator and choke cable - wouldn't you hate to get a spark off one of those...

OK looks like an earthing problem... that would explain why sometimes he is OK. Other tiems he is a stubborn little $hit... (its ok he is out of ear shot)

Marcello check how the starter was wired in your car or get it checked I remember it was a weird set up thats where I'd start

I just need to get him started one more time before he goes in for an Extreme Makeover..

Next time it happens, short out the starter solenoid (Use a jumper lead or heavy wire though). If the starter turns then solenoid is suspect.
