oh well...its all relative :)
if you really want a roundie but can live with a clubby...then just live with the clubby and pick up a roundie when one presents itself (perhaps have a project roundie and a daily clubby)...it all depends on what you REALLY want...95% is pretty good...if i was 95% sure of anything i'd be pretty much sorted :P

It really sounds to me that you bought the Clubman as a comprimise, I understand as I have done the same. I now own a roundie van and ute. don't spend the money on a clubbie. I know I will get lots of hate mail, but their not the "GENUINE" mini when you love a roundie.

I would say if you have the space. save up for a roundie, keep your clubbie, and use it for parts. that's the path I would and have gone down.
their's always a market for mini's and their parts

buy the one you want then you will never worry about how much it costs you, you'll just be happy that your driving the car of your dreams.

I know their's no easy chiosce, as you will have formed a bond with you clubie, like any mini, the have too much personality for anyone not to like

Yes it was a compromise, I knew it then and now.

I think it's going to be a while before I get any mini on the road :(
I will take the head off and check the bores etc and make sure this engine has plenty of life left in it, especially if it's going to end up in a roundie.

Thanks for your points of view I think it's a little clearer now.

I pulled the head off and potentially have a blown head gasket there is carbon between No1 and No2. I'll put up a pic tomorrow. Wierd though it seemed to be running really well.

Bores seem to have marks going around the cylinders, hard to explain but here goes, if you took a cylinder shaped section of earth out of the ground, in the hole you're left with you would see the different layers of soil, well it looks kinda like that. I'll put pics of that up too.

And the pistons have 040 stamped in the top, does this mean it's been bored 40 thou.
If so is that as much as the block can be bored?

Tim - it is 40 thou overbore - you can get 60 thou oversize pistons still. After that, the good doctor will probably let you know of anything else available.

Thanks Rob at least I know it CAN be re-bored if need be.
What's the best way to clean off the carbon?
