By the way on the subject of HP a mate of mine in Sud Afrika, who borrowed the subframe design, finally got his on dyno and it put out 380atw but he bent the subframe so he had to strengthen it up. I will get him to send me a copy of the dyno sheet. I think this was with NOS but not sure I will post some pics when I get a chance...

Cheers

I thought of it as most modern motors(that you would substitute) will be more powerful and more reliable than the A series so you have power and reliablity catered for.

It seems more of a balancing act between power and complexity to me I mean Matt (The MiniMan) is doing a V8 mini and probably needs a very big shoe horn to get it in and it'd be a fair bit of work. On the other hand a 3 cylinder engine is easier to fit but probably just as reliable in standard form anyway.

The other trade off is how many people have done it before and how many of the problems have they found the solution to already. Just look at the Starlet conversion I imagine that quite a few of the people are doing this conversion because they know it can be done and have the assistance of Matt (minstar) and Brad(13sec) if they have any problems.
This is asside from the positive attributes of the starlet conversion (starting with it being a Toyota :P Yes I am a toyota fan I think they make some very reliable cars)

OK my 2 cents...keep in mind I can't be bothered doing a conversion too

Maybe not all 3 cyls are reliable but the 3cyl Suzukis sold here in North America are a pretty good little lump. Mine has nearly 300,000km's on it and the previous owner said it was an excellent car and never gave them any problems. I had the head off because it was seeping coolant out of the side of the head slightly. It was a super easy job and I got to inspect the cylinder walls. There was no ridge at the top and you could still see cross hatch marks in the walls. I've also got a friend who works in a speed shop who has built up many of these engines and he says they are pretty tough reliable units. So for those of you who might consider one of these, I would go for it.

That is true, they do always say that. But I've had it verified, it was a car that was a friend of my mechanics friend. They are known to be reliable anyway. Thanks for the concern.

Mine has not shown any signs of fatigue or problems at all but it will also be strengthened soon. The ones im making now will hold the hp easy and be very light, pictures will be up soon once i get a price sorted out.

gotta admit that Reliability brought on the thought of a new motor. but since then the 4efte thought's I am going to chase some power figures while I am here. from what I can tell the 4efte's are bullet-proof. So I will be going to try and push some decent figures on the Dyno.

ive all the people something reliable and quick.... pricless
