the 2 things that are in your corner are 1) you are lighter than they are (by quite a huge margin, about 1/3 of the weight of a commodore) and 2) you handle better than they do...if you wanna beat em in a straight line drag then you'll need either a REALLY hot 1275 or some sort of modern turbo engine...if you wanna outdo them on a racetrack (ie. with corners) then even a mild to warm 1100 should have a chance...

the only problem you have (i suspect) is that either a modern conversion or a 1275 powered mini (mild or hot) will set you back a fair bit of coin...you'll not be able to beat them for power:price ratio :P

Even a slightly worked 1275 should give a commodore a run for it's money. My 1152 can give them a scare to 90km/h after that there is no hope.

A REALLY worked 1275 will blow away a commodore easily.

in a straightline drag? what kinda commodore we talking here? SS and below probably...HSV and i'd say you wouldnt have much of a chance...but then these school mates of his prolly arent driving around in HSVs :P

plus a REALLY worked 1275 isnt exactly cheap :P nor terribly reliable...

I reckon an original pooper S would struggle to match a new stock commonwhore in a straight line.

I agree with Stripey, from memory the cooper S was doing 17's for the quarter mile, I think a bog standard V6 commie does 15's and I am sure the situation would be the same with 0-100's. We have the new Commodore here at work and the thing takes off pretty darn hard, the bosss has a turbo XR6 and they run a low thirteen outtadabox.

0-100kph in 8.7 secs
0-400mtrs in 16.1 secs

Aint no ordinary 1275 mini going to be up with that.

I must admit I would like to see what my bog standard starlet conversion does 0-100? Wonder if it does under 8.7 sure feels like it? Traction would obviously be the big issue.

in short...if you want a mini that's gonna take down any commodore and be fairly reliable...conversion is the way to go...4efte would do the trick nicely :)

g13b would probably not be too bad either...or vtec ofcourse :P

This is VERY expensive way to get your mates off your back

Just tell them you don't plan to do a trip across the nullabor every second weekend so how your car handles matters and not how it goes in a straight line.

Takes more skill to drive an under powered car fast than a powerful one IMO. Well that's my excuse and I'm sticking to it. :D

Do what you want and not what your mates want you to do.
In other words tell them to stuff it.

Just point out to them that mini's beat Porsches in rally's and all comer's in touring cars around the world . I remember seeing races featuring mustangs and cooper S's , if it was less than a 5 lap sprint the mustangs would just win but have no brakes left . Anything longer and they'd have to conserve their brakes and tyres and the mini's would run rings around them . No good having all that power and weight when a tiny 4 cylinder with ancient technology can outdo you ....

When they give you a hard time just tell them that you don't have to make up for having a small penis.
