Are there any engines intercangeable in the clubman models that don't require engine mount modifications?

ie: will a 1275 engine fit into a mini with a 1100 engine without altering the mounts???

Unless you're talking about automatics,
they are all interchangable & have the same mounts.

Note that some have different gearchanges & there are several different driveshaft types, all of which can be overcome :)

So if i buy a clubman s with an 1100, i can drop in a 1275 in the future without touching the mounts. But i would have to investigate the floor shift linkages and driveshaft components.

Cool.

Basically there were 2 types of gearchanges that were seperate to the gearbox (rod type was last , remote was an alloy housing type used earlier) , plus the magic wand that came out of the gearbox and I'm 95% sure you won't find a clubby with one of them but they do exist . There were 3 main types of inner CV joints , a rubber uni on the early mini's through to some clubby's which is often replaced with a steel and nylon type uni joint . There was a conventional hardy spicer uni joint on some Cooper's and GT's (I think) and then there were the later pot type CV joints that were similar to the outer CV's . The only other real difference is the subframe for a mini auto is 1/2 an inch or so wider , apart from all that everything is interchangable and doesn't require engineering as it's still a mini engine onto a mini subframe using original mounts .

Lets get this right: The actual engine mounts are just a couble of rubber/metal mounts anyway. If you do change the engine you should be buying new mounts. But no, if they are all manual gearbox engines the actual mounting positions/parts are the same (ie. no engine mount mods required) for 1100 or 1275.

Of course i understand to install new mounts if changing engines, i just don't want the hassle of cutting and relocating them.

All is good then.

Thanks.

If you go up to a 1275 (Say, by buying my engine - See for sale section****SHAMELESS PLUG****), and you don't have disc brakes, you'll need to get those as well. You won't register a 1275 without disc brakes, and you wouldn't want to drive a powerful car without them anyway.

I understand. I'm trying to attain as much knowledge as i can before i buy the car because at the moment it will just be a daily driver. When i get some more cash i wan't to upgrade it a bit.

I'm looking for something with a decent shell and disk brakes. Comfort features don't worry me (That is carpets and such), but wouldn't hurt if it was in good nick.

Also due to the bigger cast of a 12G940 1275 head you will need a different bracket that mounts the radiator to the head (1275 LS?) and also a different stabiliser bar bracket which goes on top of the thermostat, you will also find the original clubman stabiliser bar will be too long so a shorter one will be needed.
I had to make my own stabiliser bar and radiator bracket for my conversion. :x

Itr depends which Clubman it is, if the early 1100 with remote shift box, you won't need an extra top steady under the thermostat.
No need because it has a proper mount on the back of the remote gearbox extension, which acts as a torque arm.
I have a 1360 with ~125HP at crank, on a remote box- it works fine and doesn't jump around at all.

I stand corrected Doc
My reference is to the models with the rod change boxes only!
I personally prefer the remote but have to live with the rod change in the clubby

If you get a 22G1128 remote case, all the Oz rodchange gears except reverse will fit in...
Just did one for Chong.... 8)

You've all lost me a bit now...

Before i buy anything i will definitely post up the specs of what it is.. for your opinions.
But most likely the owners of these cars only know how to put fuel in... Ask them specifics of this or that, they'll probably scratch their head.

In the end, i'm sure what ever setup the potential car has, it can be worked with.
