Really sad news, after 22 years of racing without major incident, Barrie Brown (ACT) had an EH spin in front of him at Turn 9 Eastern Creek on the weekend.

Heavy front impact resulted in Barrie being taken to hospital as a precaution with thankfully no major damage save for some neck stiffness etc

Mini, however, is not looking good. Subframe had to be chained out to get access to engine. Floor foot wells have creases.

Best Wishes to Barrie for a speedy recovery and good luck with the decison on whether to rebuild or not. It would be a sad way to end such a long racing career.

Damn that is sad news, the car was always looking like a million dollars ( even with a small budget) and credit to Barry as he did all the work himself to keep the car looking top notch

In NB cars are based on morris coopers or MK1 cooper's's so no flare about, still they look the goods though.

Hay, it's not about the car, it's not about the venue, it's about the people that come here. Peter Dwyer, Mayor of Hay NSW.

Hi 9YaTaH
Don't tell me you were at Eastern Creek, and we didn't meet & greet.
I thought you only went down to Phillip Island and Wakefield.
I saw this happen on Saturday.
I wondered why the car was towed and left in the pick up zone all day.
Hard to put it on the trailer if you're at the Hospital.
John.

Hi John,

No...was not there....have attended many meetings at EC, OP, AP (Boo Hoo) etc and others around the country which sometimes burns up lots of brownie points

Barrie is a good friend and an ACTMCC committee member. I 'm going to wander down to his place on the weekend to commiserate and maybe help lift the engine.

Catch ya sometime, somewhere :D

It was very sad to see Barrie's Mini in such a state.....(and looking somewhat different to the photo's!)
I was competing in my first race meet and had by chance pulled up beside Barrie in the paddock. (I was Mini number 13 and also from the ACT)
He was being very much the mentor to me about how it all worked and relieving much of my first time nerves.
After qualifying this put me on the grid behind Barrie - and he had the plan on how we could get the Jag mk2's off the line.
Sadly I was without first gear all weekend and was very much left behind off the line - though catching the tail of the pack by turn 2. Then to come round on lap 2 to have Yellow flags being waved vigorously and see the stricken Mini on the track was not a pretty sight.
It was very welcome to see Barrie OK on Sunday - and already talking about re-shelling.
This accident marred an otherwise great weekend. I have a lot to learn (badly overdriving most of the weekend) but had a fabulous time and looking forward to the next time out.

Ken.
