I went for a drive the other night with a few mates (minis fit in some funky places...) but anyway, as soon as I got to about 100k it started to cook. the temp guage is broken as I imagin most mini ones are, so I found out when I pulled over to unstick my throttle and fount it was loosing its lunch everywhere...

I went down and borrowed a radiator today from my mate at the local wreckers. Its out of a KE Laser and looks quite good sitting behind the grill...

This would be real easily mounted off the bonnet latch panel/"rad support panel" with the origional mounts from the KE, and mounted from the bottom with just a couple of pieces of 40x5 flat with a few holes in it.

I was thinking of plumbing it from the thermo housing into the KE top hose and out the bottom of the KE, into the top hose of the mini radiator. I have a thermo fan that would fit on the right hand side easily, but I was thinking that running it without a fan would let it idle warm and when cruising would cool it down more. also the added volume in the cooling system couldnt be a bad thing.

The top hose goes from there to there:


And the bottom would come from here going to up there (prev pic):


A steel pipe (exhaust pipe) would be used to get the water around the engine bay and a pretend cap would seal the KE radiator (and a jonny on the overflow) because the mini rad sits higher in the cooling system...

so... what do ya think?

That radiator looks heaps bigger than the mini unit

Just remove the side mounted radiator altogether,
and fit a thermo fan to the front mounted radiator.

the thermo I have will fit, but its shagged and I dont know what its off. It was the only one John n I could find small enough. silvia or something maybe...

also the bottom radiator hose would be difficult to get from the block around to the front bottom right of the engine bay past the carbys without makeing any too sharper bends or going higher than the radiator cap.

are the tanks on that radiator metal or plastic? if metal, you could get the outlet moved to the other side, or if plastic turn the tank around so the outlet is on the other side and have a single 180 degree bend ?

think laterally - use a bit of straight pipe weher you need to work the lower hose aroound to the "bottom" outpet from the water pump. have a look at some of the rovers woth front mounts and you will get the idea
