well I hate to say it but I am the worst backyard mini mechanic on the face of this earth. I still can't seem to manage to get this to work. I went out and bought the splitter first thing this morning. Well at least straight away when I got out of bed (thank god for the school holidays) and when I got back I gave it a go and hey presto nothing happened. either I'm using it wrong although I kind of figure there is only one way to use it or I am just retarded. The one I got looked just like the one in Dr mini's photo what am I doing wrong. My mini is about to get a swift rabbit punch to the temple soon if she dosn't start co-operating.

Like you said, there's only one way they work, but if you got it wrong:

The fork bit goes between what you are trying to separate
The other part of the scissor sits on top of the stud you took the nut off
Give it a bit of a tap to make sure the fork end is in as far as it will go
Wind up the big bolt on the end, this puts force on the stud trying to push it through the steering arm
Depending how tight it is. it should go BANG & fall apart

Well guys I'm happy to let you know that I have upgraded myself from the worst to one of the worst back yard mini mechanics in aus. Got them seperated. I had to make some slight modifications to my splitter as it was slipping to far and I was able to wind it all the way up with nothing happening. Thanks for all your help now I can drop the engine and the subframe out and ship the shell off to get painted
