People who have tinted there windows, do you think it actually kept your car cooler? Mine didn't seem to. My theory is that sure, it might stop heat coming in through the tint, but alot of heat still comes in through the windscreen, and then the window tint prevents the heat getting out. So personally i think window tint only is asthetic. what do u guys think?

thats correct mate. thats what the tint sghop told Emm and I. It is really
just an aesthetic thing, but i think that Emm noticed that her car was a little cooler.
it would def stop the sun from having direct exposure to your seats which would
make them cooler to sit on i think'

I know your pain..... i drive a black BMW with a black interior - that thing gets hot even in winter.

It is a simple fact that dark colours absorb heat faster than light colours do......

What doesnt help is having a black roof, black dash and black seats.

You should not only aim to stop direct sunlight from getting into the car, but also to circulate the air that is heating up in your car.

Insulating your roof would help, but that job is a pain in the arse......

I remember seeing (a few years back) this plastic thing that fit between the top of the window and the door frame with a box hanging off it inside the car..... it was a solar powered fan that could draw air from outside aswell as pump hot air out. Alot of caryards use em, so they must work.....

Ribena has tinted windows - not very dark - and it doesn't help one bit with the heat. But it looks ok

Cheers

PHYSICS 101-heres why

sunlight is white light, which is comprised of the 6 main colours of the spectrum. (indigo does not count, it was made up by sir Issac Newton to make 7 colours, becuase apparently 7 is gods number) so, when white light shines on something, it reflects only one colour which is the colour we see. so for exammple, grass reflects only green light (well...brown at the moment...) and my car reflects only red/orange light.

so what about white? it reflects all the colours. black however, reflects no light, which is why it heats up in the sun.

do you get me?

you will find in a mini the cooling effect of having window tint quite minimal. Mini's have small windows and poor insulation on all body panels. their will be a large ammount of heat absorbed through your darker panels (roof, doors... whatever get's sun)

I know its a masive pain but have you tried using a car cover when parking in the sun if you can find a light coloured car cover with clips preferably breathable and thick enough to provide UV protection.

if you put this on with the windows down a pinch, that will keep you cool while your not driving. But I realise it's a pain but for less than $50 bucks at Poopercheap Auto? might be worth it just to keep your paint shiny

Although you really can't see it in the pic, the LS factory green tint look sensational in clubmans.

slightly O/T

can anyone explain why my wife's white conformadore gets way way hotter when left in the sun than my mini does - I always thought cos the mini's windows were smaller and vertical that the sun doesn't come in as much, or is it that the mini doesn't seal the air in and let it heat up... ?

anyway, that tint'll look good - I want to tint my roundie van.... I reckon it'll be sweet

so those who are telling me that window tint is usless your saying when you are driving your mini and teh sun is beating down on you you wouldnt prefer the window tint blocking you from the uv rays and glare of the sun its not just for when your parked and im sure when your parked its gonna stop your dark seats or speakers in your rear shelf from fading and cracking

Not only does tint help slow the UV's effects (or so they say)...... but at night time you can hide behind it while making faces at the people in the car next to you
