Hi congrats on the GT
An easy way of rust prevention is to was the car regularly and thoroughy to avoid any build up of salinity on the body.
As for the speakers I agree on under the backseat is the go.
If you really want to use the I Pod an keep the factory am radio a dodgy -but it works way- is to use an amplifier to run the speakers and connect the I Pod plug into a convertor that changes the single style I pod input into a Left and Right rca input for the amp to drive two channels, the gain on the amp must be left at a lower level as the volume will be controlled through the I pod itself but keep a charger handy as this might drain out the I pod battery quicker. 8)

Yes, re regular washing.... have also bought a good qual wax ....
Going to install the radio as is with no cuts and.... thanks....the ipod idea is a good one. Will look into that.
