I saw a red one of those down here in Morwell a few months back but not driven by a real old bloke... Don't know if it's local or not as I have not seen it since..

It's a classic parts bin special. I doubt there's any part that's unique to that car apart from badges possibly. In other words, Riley Elf front, mini back, all standard panels and you could make one yourself if you wanted. A bit like making a Clubman with a Riley Elf boot (God forbid).

<edit> But that car is probably the South African model, rather than a home made conversion.

Prolly a chop job then. There's only about 3 things to change (plus chrome). Bonnet, grill (attached to bonnet), front panel (easy cut and paste job). Lights are off a bunch of other cars as well.

what happens if it is a rare one? one of the rarest minis in the world.
wahy is it the second someone has something different they have to rip it to peices and call it a fake.
what is the old saying jellousy makes you nasty.......

try and find the car or the rego and track it down that way.
to be honest i have never seen one in real life and they are very rare, we had mini shows in joburg with over 300minis there and no one ever bought one (not even ryno verster), i have videos of all sorts of minis on the day.

i suppose you will say the south african mk111 is a chop job next seeing as that is a mini front end and a riley rear end.

Hehe...not nasty.....realistic. You are completely correct that it could be one of the rarest minis in the world, however when somebody says they saw one of the rarest minis in the world tootling down the highway, and that same car could be reproduced in a garage in a couple of hours with a welder, I tend to assume it's a repro. So shoot me  Same as if I see what appears to be a MKIII 'S' sitting at an NZ show I assume it's a copy first, then consider the alternative...

you own a mini drive it.
stu i would hatefor you to be a judge, guilty untill proven innocent.

I eman think about it how many times do i see the cars form southwards tottling down the road down here, bloody often. all cars need to be driven maybe they just took it out for a remeberance spin or for whatever reason its always good to see another mini on the road.

I'm not judging anything, you're reading too much into what I said. I'm not placing any 'less' value on those repro's or copies or whatever. They're still somebodies car that they've put time, money and effort into.

I think the 'it's a copy until proven otherwise' mind-set comes from where I work 8) You wouldn't believe some of the crap that people try and get away with. Well actually you would, but you know what I mean!

i know what you mean a 1965 morris when its a 1961 austin.
yeah but im the other way around i think its orginal till proven other wise. you can spot them a million miles away if you know what you looking for.

Originality freaks scare me and should not be allowed to make judgemnts on other peoples cars.
my old austin van was a rare old 1963 Smooth roof when i took it to a mini club there eyes lit up untill they found that i had changed the wiper motor he then closed the bonnet in dusgust and would not talk to me or even let me join the club, so i went and started my own mini club and took half there members away from them, 164 members in the first month took there memebrship for 102 to just 40 that gave them a wake up call that not all mini people are into originality and some people do like to modify things.
either way its a mini.

yeah i have heard of that that minis did not come out woith stainless stell hose clamps and you will be marked down for that.

THe best one that got me was, wiring in the engine bay credit to someone who has taken the effort to remove all wiring form the bay so you can see any, well it got marked down cos the wiring could not been seen to be judged on neat and tidy.

(i blew my stack when i heard that)
some spotty nosed litle pimple ar5ed kid who knows nothing about minis or wiring was given the honours of judging wiring and engine bay. pr1ck
ok rant is over now.
