The thing is one person will tell you that someone is great, and the next person will have a horror story about them.

The guy I am using now is an engineer who builds mostly high performance plane engines, and does the odd drag car/high performance street vehicle.

He is a total perfectionist which is a good trait to have in a mechanic. I'm never concerned with cost as long as I get a really high quality job done.

I'm in North Queensland by the way.

jacks.

Ok I hear and understand what you all say, BUT there are idiots in every industry. Just because one Mini mechanic has no Idea, It is not really that fair to brand all Mini Mechanics as idiots.

I believe that a mini garage is better to go to than a regular Garage as Mini garages(good ones) have the special tools required for specific Mini jobs eg.. removing primary gear seal, flywheel puller, rubber spring compressor..
I have fixed some jobs by other 'mini mechanics' and found them to be a total disaster, but please do not write all us Mini mechanics off because of one bad experience BUT in saying that if you find a regular mechanic that knows what he is doing then use him....

Anyhow I?ve said my piece,

Andrew

I here what you are saying, and I agree that they can not all be idiots. I know of at least 4x so called "Mini Experts" around Brisbane who I would clearly classify as complete idiots despite having 20+ years of Mini experience.

In terms of special tools someone who knows what they are doing will either make or buy the tools they need - there isn't really anything exotic in terms of Mini tools.

When you find someone good, treat them like gold.

Good idea, might be worth throwing an open day and a sausage sizzle or something to get people down to your business and check it all out. Just a thought.

Cheers
Aaron
