True , but there is something of a perverse sense of fun from telling the 1275 you just gave a fright to that you've only got an 850 .... The sports850 with it's tired little 850 , 202 head , twins and extractors surprises a few people with 998's and 1098's , getting it to surprise the big boys could be fun . Besides , I've got the bit's so I might as well use them .

i think the main thing about the 850 is its fuel consumption, now is a good time to be running an 850
i am personally going for a 998 in regards to light fuel consumption

building up an 850 to be a screamer would likely use more fuel than a meaty 1275 - economy?? wtf is that??

want economy?

raise your compression, make the exhaust ports flow better, put on a sensible set of extractors and muffler...

the same amount of fuel, squashed up more, produces a bigger bang - therefore a lesser amount of fuel, squashed up more, produces the same bang

when the exploded gases can get out of the motor with less restriction and heat exchange into the motor, the easier it is for the motor to make the bang, therefore the easier it is to make power, therefore less fuel is required

hows that for justification of warming up an 850 to 998 performance - going the extra mile to make it a 1275 eater is where you'll lose that economy, so my previous post stands, I just justified yours as well :D

I think if i put a 12g202 head on a stocko 850, with some headers, glasspack and a nice set of boobs it would be a good motor to drive..
whats the impact of the pudding stirrer though, does it suck or what?

Only if you're a ham fisted amateur ... It's nice and direct and probably the quickest shifting of all the gearchanges because of it's directness , no external linkages to wear .

i would imagine, if the all the tollerances were tight (like,or better than, new) it would be a swift change...

lots of leverage too.. :)
