Well if you are after cheap go grab some hyundain excel seats.
Somewhat bucket shaped, strong, easy to fit, has angle lever and flips forward for rear access. GX seats have height and lumbar adjustment.
Price? $80 should get both fronts in mint condition. :D

Are these easy to mount in a mini?

I guess it depends on what you call easy. I have Excel seats in my mini and there was a bit of stuffing around trying to make a bracket so I could use the original front mounts. The biggest problem I had was trying to get it so there was just the right travel forward and back as well as trying to get the height right.
Got a welder and you should be able to experiment to suit, something I didn't have which slowed it down .

I have a pair of bucket seats out of a honda prelude that fit perfectly into the mini with room to spare. I did a dummy fit and they are very comfortable with lumbar support and side bits to accomodate the more portly of us. The drivers seat has adjustable sides that can be wound in and out to allow for comfort while driving and really hug your sides when they are wound in too just quietly. I still havent done anything towards getting rails made for them but they are extremely comfy.

I know also the latest MX-5 seats fit well too but are pretty bland and the shape is very blaise'. I know of a pair going for $850 in Fyshwick never installed($2500 from Mazda!!! ).

I may be offering up the Honda seats shortly but I will decide that later - will keep you posted.

Daihatsu Feroza 4WD drive seats look like recaro's & they are a narrow seat, im guessing they would'nt cost too much from a wrecker, i got my for free  had to unbolt them out of the car at the scrap yard.

mitsuibishi cordia turbo seats, got them out of a car for $0 at the scrap metal place one weekend.. gave them a clean, they sit back a lot more than the mini seat, but very comfy and they hug you a bit, not as much as a racing seat obviously, but enough anyways  the only problem is getting in the back.. it can be done, but its not exactly easy.. 1 leg here 1 there etc lol

thanks for all the ideas, might stick with the rover sports seats. Do you reckon i should get them retrimmed in black vinyl/leather? My back seats are in mint condition and so is the carpet and door trims, there all black as well.
