Well said.

I don't get the anti MINI feelings - if someone wants to pay $30-40-50K for a car that pays homage to the original mini, then is there any better compliment?

As for those MINI drivers that don't wave, they are either aren't enthusiasts or don't want to spill their latte. :D

that's a really good term for it. there's been lots of 'discussions' about whether its a real Mini and whether its in keeping with the spirit etc. But if we all consider that it was designed to "pay Hommage" then none of the other stuff matters. We're not a covers band, we're a tribute band.

The problem is that we're shunned from here - we're called "Binis" at the best of times.

I think you'll find that most people have just given up and are over at Mini2, where noone is trying to have a fight over whos Mini is a Mini.

From my experience its not the "new" Mini community shunning the old community, we LOVE them all... its the old Mini community shunning us. To a lesser extent this happens with clubbies too.

Actually, to start with, I do think the term BINI was meant as an insult and many BINI owners took it as such and were hurt by it.

I chose to see it as a term of affection, even if it wasn't meant that way (it can only be an insult if you find it insulting, ignoring the insult makes the person trying to insult you all cranky n crap too which is an added bonus :D) I now quite happily call my car a BINI. Thing is, I only call it a BINI when I am on ausmini or around ausmini people. :D

I have had to enter into this debate, after reading the posts.

I own a BINI, and I do call it a Bini cause it's not a real Mini, it's made by BMW, it's twice as big as the old Mini's and doesn't have much character. They are everywhere on the roads, and it's rare that Mini people will wave at me when I'm in the Bini.

The old Mini's are rare and becuaed they are so little compared to most cars look cute on the roads. And do turn heads.

I now own a Moke too, so no doubt I have fully offended most Mini people. That's not classed as a real Mini either. You know what, I DON'T CARE :D

And neither should anyone else on here, bloody hell, it's not life and death whether people like your car, you do, so what the bloody problem :!:

My piece for the day said. Bini owners I'm over it, we made a choice to buy a new Mini enjoy the car. And you may note, I own a Rover Mini, a Clubman Van, a Moke and a Bini. So the only group I don't fit into is the Morris group. Do I care NO

Surely the new BINI owners look at the new VW Beetle and say "It's not a Beetle", as does everyone else.

It's very clear its not a Mini, it's a MINI. BMW sought to differentiate itself with the cars heritage by not using the name they raped Rover of, amongst other things they pilferred before they sealed its fate and sent Rover bankrupt. This is a fact not a jibe at BINI owners. You aren't responsible for the actions of the manufactuer. I'm sure Morris/Leyland committed such atrocities, heck, look at the P76.

Now some people will mistakingly read that statement as further disrepect to the MINI. I don't not like the MINI nor do I like it and I don't hold an opinion on it.

And why are these owners so sensitive about being given a ribbing? Surely they aren't the first owner of a particular vehicle to be ridiculed? Grow up kids.

why are we sensitive? well mate for me it got a bit tiresome after a year, after 3 years of it, wouldnt you be just a wee bit f..ing annoyed???

Personally now I dont give a crap, I choose not to associate with the MINI haters and let them get on with it, hence most of us have moved on from this forum apart from lurking which is what the thread is asking.

As for looking at a new beetle, yeah I may not like it, but it would be completely ignorant of me to start hanging shite on it when I have never driven one or even been for a ride in one, nor would I put a sticker on my car stating I didnt like it. Why do people find the need to go out of their way to tell you they dont like the car. If you dont like it fiddle sticks off and leave us alone, simple.

Horses for courses - I like both but I think the hard done by attitude is wearing a bit thin as is all the inter stable debate. Let it lie and agree to disagree.

The simple fact is that it is a 2 way street. I did a run recently with a fellow mini member and a couple of MINI's. They ragged my Clubman and said it wasn't a real mini where I then threw a retort back stating the MINI is made in 28 different countrys. We agreed to disagree and that was that. All arguing does is make individuals BROOD and look for some other way to get back.

So lets agree to disagree and get on with it - I couldnt give a fat flying fiddle sticks what you drive or wear(womens underwear and a tiara on your bonce for all I care!!) So get on with it and enjoy whatever you drive.

End Trans!!!

I don't say anything about not liking or disliking the Beetle. I said it's not a Beetle. People don't hate your car mate, they hate that BMW called it a MINI. Its a well design car that is a good package overall. It is it to BMW's credit that they manipulated the Mini Heritage to sell a optioned up Suzuki Swift.

As for 3 yrs, get used to it. People still hang crap on Toranas and they haven't made them for 20 years.

People in the perfomance car scene hang crap on Morris/Leyland Minis and they don't take them seriously, do you hear me crying poor?
