Ok, I beg your forgiveness in advance, I'm new and this might have been covered in the past, but it might be worth asking the question again.

I have a complete 's' disc brake set-up inc driveshafts, cv's etc which I am planning on fitting to my '67 delux. I also have pair of metro turbo vented rotors and 4 pot calipers. I understand about getting the rotors turned down to 7.5-7.9 to make them fit under my 10inch wheels. I am also led to believe that I have to use metro drive flanges as opposed to the 's' flanges. What I don't know is what modifications I will have to make to the cooper 's' swivel hubs to make the metro calipers fit, i.e. do I need to get new bolt holes drilled to hold the calipers, or are the existing holes in the right place.

Any help would be welcome

Sell your S brakes. Do not barstardise them. SOmeone will be willing to part with good money to acquire (if original). WIth your money from the sale you will be able to buy the Metro hubs and the necessary Negative Camber bottom arms and adjustable tie rods you will need. Get some Hi Los too. With the sale of the S Discs you could prolly stretch for some coilovers.

Or sell the lot and do the Civic/Accord/Prelude conversion that is being discussed widely at the moment (on this forum anyhow). If you're doing modificiations which will makes your brakes illegal anyhow you might aswel save some cash

you know where I am, you picked up a set of adj bottom arms from me yesterday. And I take your point about bastardising rare parts, but truly, I'm just after the best braking solution

well where do I begin: I just got some wolfrace alloys in from uk, cost me the best part of $600 for 4 second hand mags after freight/customs/gst, but I think I got a bargain. I have a set of yoko A008's to go on those. The engine going in is an 's' donk which I haven't really decided what to do with, it needs at least rings and bearings to be safe, but I have some magic gear to go on it, so I'll probably have to totally rebuild it. Metro turbo brakes you know about, I have also spent a fortune on suspension components. My main aim is to have a car that handles like a go-kart but with good torque probably at the expense of horsepower. It will be for mainly fast road use, but with the suspension/brakes it will have, I want to take it around a track occasionally too

The metro turbo vented disc rotors and 4 pot calipers will bolt straight up to your S hubs, no mods if you use metro turbo drive flanges. The only thing is S hubs use 3/8" UNF bolts while metro calipers use 10mm bolts. Your 10" rims will not fit over the metro 4 pot calipers though. The rotors can be turned down to 7.5 or 7.9 but you will need some after market 4 pot alloy calipers and you will need to check carefully whether the calipers you choose will fit with your rims of choice. Not all rim/caliper combinations work.
I ran metro vented discs and 4 pot calipers on my sprint mini with 13" rims with Green EBC pads. Worked OK but not as good as S discs and calipers with carbon metallic pads which I now use with 10" rims. These are very effective and no hassles using on the road other than purchase price for pads, $250 or so.
Other thing to remember is the metro rotors and calipers weigh significantly more than S set up. Steve

ive got a set of S discs... i need to get some vented turbo brakes.. im thinking of selling my setup and just getting the adjusty arms like mentioned above...

ive got a honda setup ready to go on, pointess at the moment no motor to make the car go to test them, lol..

thanks for that, I'm still weighing up my options, I haven't even decided what power I want out of my motor yet, so when I decide how mental I want it to be I can decide what brakes I will go with. Metro vented sounded good, but alloy 4 pots are expensive, and I've heard that vented rotors aren't really vented anymore when you take them down to 7.5 (at least you lose all the cooling benefits) it was more for wank factor than anything else anyway

All the advice I have been given is avoid the metro swivel hubs. While you can get them to work with the Mini setup they were originally designed for a car that had a completely different setup which is why you have to make changes like negative camber arms etc. This ultimately leads to changes in Ackerman Angles etc which can make things pretty dicey. Stick with the S hubs to which they bolt to exactly. Like 8.4" discs these were designed with 13" wheels in mind (but they also work under 12" wheels). Either get 12" or 13" wheels or forget about 4 pot system. Pairing them down so they fit under 10" wheels defeats the purpose (in my humble opinion). As for breaking power I have the vented four pots on mine and can lift the rear wheels when push comes to shove. If you go the metro route you will need four lines, well two lines plus banjo lines as there are two hose connections on the callipers.

yes, I already knew that metro swivels were a waste of time, I already have a complete 's' set, and a new pair of metro vented rotors and 4 pots with greenstuff pads. I know to use them I need :
a, metro drive flanges and
b, mini caliper conversion hoses.
My original question was "do I need to modify the 's' swivels". After the advice given, I have come to the conclusion that I can't fit the metro's under the 10inch wheels I have unless I buy alloy 4 pots (turning the rotors down to 7.5 or 7.9 was a given), and I don't want to put 12's on my car because it would just look wrong. Oh well, I'll just have to keep the metro stuff for the next project.

I have seen many a set of 4 pot metro vented brakes fitted under 10" wheels,,,heaps of times...there are mods to the caliper mounting holes to bring the caliper closer to the hub & they need skimming off the back of the caliper for clearance to the wheel rim

BUT!!!!,,,,I don`t recomend doing it,,,it`s all a bit too dodgey for my liking

altho they do stop very well indeed,,, it`s just a dicey type of job , & even if i did want to do it, then i`d probly have the calipers "sonic" tested (X-rayed) to see what meat is there to play with.

all in all , not a prefered way to obtain big stoppers (in my books anyways) & DAM HEAVY THINGS THE ARE TOO!!!

yeah, it's a shame they will be such a hassle to fit, I really want my car to stop and corner exceptionally well, the venteds would have been just the trick, but I don't want to compromise on wheel size, roundys were made for tens and from what I've read and heard, they handle better than 12's most of the time
