hey hey

when i pull the spark plug lead off the 1st cylinder ( furthest to the right) nothing happends - no drop in revs... and it only happens on this one.
leads are new, spark plug replaced, dizzy cap replaced. but still the same - miss firing and nothing happend when you take the lead off.
is it the actual dizzy? a 'mini' problem?
should i do the pulsar conversion - is there much benefit of doing it?
any help would be great!!

hate to tell you this but that dosent sound like a dizzy problem. try swapping the plug for no 2, see how that goes(somtimes you get a dud plug), if not, hows your manifold gasket? (unlikley to be the problem, but can be), compression test may be an idea? could be head gasket, im sure somone else will add more!

I had this problem for quite some time where number 1 would always get wet (not fire).

Check the following:

- Check/replace Number 1 plug. Take it out, check the gap, change it with number 2 and see if this works
- Check/replace Number 1 lead. Same as above but with leads. If they faill, buy Bosch leads at your local supercheap

If all else fails i found my problem to be the rotor as this was worn as well as the cap. When replacing caps, check the rotor too, very cheap to replace.

had a compression test and was down but the next time my mech did it ( next day) it was fine. cheers

is the rotor the little cap just inside the dizzy cap?

just changed the leads and plugs over - no differnence....

i'm thinking about just buying a new dizzy, should i get the normal one or should i do the pulsar conversion? is there any difference between the two - will the pulsar one work better??

Buy mine, buy mine!!!! New old-style dizzy. Or good condition electronic Lucas dizzy that will drop in.

Seriously though, unless your dizzy shaft is bent so the rotor is hitting the cap or missing one button by heaps or not opening the points on one lobe, you shouldn't be changing the whole diz for this problem. Sounds like cap, lead or plug. Last car I saw that had this sympton was an MX-5 at a track day that had dropped a valve, so no compression.

hmm, is the plug wet? - head gasket
otherwise, try (somones going to tell me off) oppening up the clearances on the rockers so there nice and loose, just to make sure a rocker isint holding a valve open...


you said the diz cap is new, so it should be fine, i really dont forsee this being a dizzy problem. just my oppinion.

I Do know that some cams can "just do" this ...

Pull the Number 2 lead off any engine running an RE-13 .... almost no difference at idle ....

Is it running a stocko cam ? - or something a little wilder ?

You can just about discount your dizzy on this one so relax. It'll be related to what the people have said above.

The dizzy won't selectively miss a cylinder, it's not how it works. Maybe the cap or the leads or the technical stuff as mentioned above, but not the mechanical part of the dizzy.

i'm going to get another compression test done..
had an old mechanic look at it and said it could be a sticky valve or somthing to do with the cylinder because the plugs and leads are all working.
its fine when reving but miss-fires when idling.
