Gday all - a quick question...

I am starting the pull down of some 7.5 Cooper S brakes - how do you get the pistons out? They are fairly well stuck there - do I carefully pry out the outer ring and rubber seal or soak them in a deisel bath for a while.

Actually easiest if you connect hoses onto a Mini... :lol:
clamp the inner piston with a g clamp etc, then use brake pedal to pump the outer one out.
Remove the inner one with a pin punch thru the hose port, and BFH.

If off car you can use compressed air this same way, but put a piece of masonite or something between pads as piston will come out fast.... be careful.

try anything..... what worked for me was putting a bolt through a ring spanner and screwing a nut on it, then putting the bolt in the hole in the piston and screwing the nut out so that the bolt was stuck in the piston, then I jerked it out with the ring spanner.... I think pushing it further in helped too

I guess if you get really desperate and you're going to replace the piston, you could drilla hole in it and tap it and pull it with a bolt :?

is it an option to put it back ona car and use the brake pedal with no pads to force the piston out?

That is gold - would never have thought of that. I was contemplating the drill and thread but will try your way now - will be back in 5...lol

just bolt together again, if no bridge seal the compressed air trick will still work. :wink:

Well bugger me - it bloody worked - the ring spanner and bolt and nut think worked. A twist clockwise, then back again and a sharp tug - POP!!...

The other side is proving a wee more stubborn...lol
