The 12G1316 is basically a 12G940 casting, but with 4 air injection ports into the exhausts added for emission reasons back in the 70s.
No difference really once ported, except that generally the stock 1316 is a bit more restricted particularly around the valve guide bosses. Takes a little more work to port out, but not much.
Also, as they are a thicker casting in places, Vizard reckons they port out better. :wink:
