Well, in Moree where I live, it regualarly gets to 40*C+ in summer, and after getting the windows tinted in my gf's car (my old car) a little daihatsu handivan, with the window up the sun doesn't burn my arm anymore, it felt heaps cooler, and it did look heaps better.

I might be biased (am a window tinter) but my mini will definetly be getting a full dark tint job (but still legal).

I am a definate "for" ..as chris said, clubby's look hot with tint.

Here is a pic of my tint:

I think a smoke grey colour would look great on your car, it's screaming for it. I am not one for tint on roundies though.

As for the heat issue, my car is a lot cooler on a 35+ degree day if you keep all the windows up and just have the 1/4 vents open to circulate the air.

I agree with rampage, your arm doesn't get burnt by the sun when the window is up and it looks good to boot.

For the people who have had their windows tinted, how much was it? Did they take the windows out to do it?

mine cost around $280 for all the windows, including the sunroof..

and you just leave the car there at the tint shop.. no need for DIY window removal!

The tint people usually take the rubber/felt strip off the inside of the window opening (the one that seals against the bottom of the glass when the glass is up) so that the tint goes all the way to the bottom of the glass.

The owner of the car just drops the car off and collects it in 3 hours or so.

The tint guys say "dont wind the windows down for 48 hours minimum, dont wash the windows for 1 month minimum, allow 28 days for the tint to cure properly"

The usual rate for cars these days (not including sunroof glass) is $250 for standard legal tint. You can get mirror/limo tint (illegal in some states).... and some places can even do multi colour tint with flame patterns and crap like that.....

Okay-Here's something to think about...
Car was broken into, the arsehole broke the drivers window by wedging a screwdriver between the glass and the frame, this caused the window glass to shatter.I reported the break-in/theft to police, who came around to carry out written report. The first comment by the police was-"aahh tinted windows"-so what I said..Well these arseholes apperently look for vehicles with tinted windows because when they shatter the glass, the tint holds the shattered glass together and falls into there hands in one piece-no noise and no cuts on there hands!!!My broken glass was found inside the rubbish bin in one piece!!
The glass breaks where the tint finishes on the bottom strip and comes away in one piece...

I've thought about a tint for my roundnose (lightsilver with dark blue roof). Mainly because i'll be driving along, turn and hit the sun, flip down my sun visor and OHNOES CAN'T SEE ANYTHING EXCEPT MY BONNET%@!!

Definately wont get a dark tint, but something to take the edge of the sun might be nice.

Just for everyone's information... those ads for window tinting that claim tinted windows prevents skin cancer because they block out UV rays are a crock. Normal untreated untinted glass blocks out 95% of UV rays anyway... tinting the windows doesn't do squat for that. What tinting does help with is heat. But they try to sucker people in with this "tinted windows = safety" crap, and that pisses me off! :x

On topic though... i was thinking about going for a super dark tint for my mini so people can't see me if i do something to annoy them. Also, it would keep the car cooler in summer. But, i am thinking maybe it wouldn't look right. The clubbys certainly look good with dark tint but i dunno about roundies now. :? I want the tint but if it's gonna look crap i probably shouldn't do it.

before i put the windows into my car - i was thinking about getting them tinted also - thought it might possilby be cheaper if i were to do it before I put them in but who knows. People said clubbys look awesome with tint and I thought it would go well with the subaru blue

If so, what (%)? tint do you recon i should go for - and where would people reccomend in Adelaide?

Stay away from dye tint as it turn purple after a while?.most tint places use good quality tint with good guarantees I do forget what tints are good I will ask my brother as he runs a tint a car shop?..

personally I have all my cars tinted and I think it is more that just a cosmetic type thing as it will keep your car cooler and or help with you?re A/C but as we mini owners know not too many of us would have A/C?.

In saying that I don?t think tint suits a mini so I will not be getting mine done but I do think there is a clear film you can put on your windows to cut the UV rays (not sure on this one will check it out)

Now that my car is a lot darker i think having tint will enhance its looks, plus keep it cooler in these hot brisbane days
