Hi Guys,

I drive on Mowbray Road everyday on my way to work and there is a little red (was once red :) mini there.
Today I notice a for sale sign.
I call him and ask about it.
Its had heaps of work done, 1380, extractors, 2" exhaust, 45mm carbs, Cooper disc brake conversion, bored, etc, etc
He has wheels on it, look like mini lites or something.

Unrgeistered, needs flares cause the wheels are wider than the guards (flares look like they were removed)
It needs tidying up on the inside (dash inserts, etc)

He's asking for $5000

Is that too sharp?

Peter.

Kinda too steep but kinda not, depends on how much work it needs to get registed.

Hay, it's not about the car, it's not about the venue, it's about the people that come here. Peter Dwyer, Mayor of Hay NSW.

When i was shopping around for cars on the online car sale websites i came across a pearler Clubman, worked 1275, disks, no rust full respray BRG with white stripe, new interior and 13's... $6000.

Problem for me is that it was near Cairns... To the point, don't buy it unless you can get it on the road with little expense and still looks neat and tidy.

my rule of thumb on buying a car is this. When buying a car work out your total you want to pay then take 1-2k of that as this is what you will pay within the first 12 months of ownership fixing everything that needs to be fixed or bodged up. With mini's i would err towards the 2k mark as you will eventually pay that in a 12 month period. Buying an unregistered 1380 for 5k seems steep to me, mainly because of the extra 2k you would spend,+ rego and insurance on top. starts looking like a 8-9k car over the first 12 months. Then you need to look at the fact that the motor is 1380, the end of it's bore life, without resleeving which is $600 in itself. I say if you can get it for 3k, it would be worth it, anymore you have to be committed to keeping it a long time.

Cheers
Aaron

A really nice mini matic on EBay at the moment for $4800. It's no rocket, but great for the price looking at the condition. Anyone own it ?
