thats unbelieveable, thats blatant revenue raising, i cant see how a fine of that magnitude is justified for being in the wrong spot for 10 minutes.

spaceboy, i was 3 minutes late!! i was in town to pick up my sister and i was heaps early so i took my bike and went to the skate park for a bit. on my back to the car to drop off my bike i was stopped by a police officer i was about 10 metres from the car and he wanted to see some ID (which i got out of my car) to give me a warning about riding my bike without lights. My sister called to tell me that she was going to be 5 minutes late. As the nice police officer who was taking my details along came mr parking inspector writes me a ticket! The police officer said that i wasnt at fault and that it was "immoral" to write me a ticket. The parking inspector continued to write the ticket as my sister came around the corner. the parking spot ended at 9 pm and we out of their by 9:03pm!!! I did get a good park though :P

Thats what annoyed me

i paid it today, the court costs would far outweigh the parking fine, realistically what the point in going to court over it  in the end it is only $78 only half a weeks income

cheers

Bloody parking permits-tickets etc.... :x
We drove around Tassie last month, amazing how you can't park anywhere in Burnie and many other places without paying.
Thank God for Maccas and KFC.. 8)

Do you know the name of the copper you were talking to and did you include that in your letter ? The more info you can give the better , but I agree with you about the expense of taking it to court . Strange how parking fines and speeding fines are the only ones where you're guilty until proven innocent , the police or parking officers don't have to prove your guilt unless you take it to court ....

My wife and I were honeymooning in New Zealand and rented a car.
We had to stop in a town and buy some stuff and I parked right in front of the shops.

Walked in and the lady freaked out... Hey, you better pay, they'll book you!
I said, oh ok, how much is the fine... $16
HAHAHA I said thats cheaper than parking where I come from so i'll cop the fine instead of running back to the car thanks!

Peter.

I just paid my parking fines (after they sent me 2 letters)
First letter said 'Your license is suspended'
Second letter said 'All vehicle registrations are cancelled'

$780 in fines!

Trust me, pay on time, accept the $78 or it QUICKLY turns into $125 then $160

Cheers,
Peter.

I got a parking fine in Melbourne city centre yesterday.

Parked in a loading zone in La Trobe St (which is OK, cause the Mini van is G registered - as in Goods carrying) at 3:50. Walked across the road to the shop where I was dropping off some magazines (Technical Book Shop if you are looking for the mag in City Centre). Had TJ with me (8-yo son) so did the right thing and went up to the lights and waited for walk signal, etc (normally I just scoot across the road), came back same way - up to lights, wait for walk, etc.

Got back to the Mini at 4:02. Loading zone became Clearway at 4:00. Parking dude was printing out the fine. "Hang on", I said, "we are just moving it". "I've already done it", he said. "Bloody Hell!" I replied. (I'll probably get another fine for causing him personal trauma).

Interesting thing is that the time of the fine was 4:08. Simply not true! I'm going to appeal this one.

Now for the important part - the fine is $105.

It certainly doesn't pay to do the right thing and cross at the lights - OK, that's not the right message, but you know what I mean. Maybe I just need to hurry a bit more and not do everything at the last minute.

Cheers, Watto.
