Funny you mention that, I actually come from the camp that think they are minis, but that aside, I can think of a few people from a certain club that on one hand bag out new minis for not being minis, then cheer their own members for driving a "BMW" in hay heroes, but then mouth off about having non - minis at the event.

Get the f&*k over it.

While we're on the topic, it's funny how one particular club doesn't ever get into the spirit of the fancy dress award ceremony either. I won't go any further than that - anything else I have to say might be hurtful  :P

hahahah - yeah, I've gotten over it... I am actually happy they've added a new class for them, and of course, they only do well in the right hands - some people will kick ass no matter what they drive, and other people (like me) will come well down the order even if they're driving the fastest and most well sorted beast there is :)

(check the fine print in my last post ;))

oops, sorry Bob - I shouldn't have said something like that in a thread that is already heated.... it was aimed squarely at me

and now for some "light entertainment" - seriously, I searched for light entertainment in google images and this came up

People

22 years ago when we started the ACT mini club all we wanted to do was get to the mini nationals, we had to get invited by the NSW,SA and Vic clubs to be able to go, all the clubs welcomed us with open arms and as we were not CAMs affilated at the time NSW even let us get a licence from them so we could compete in the Khana, over the next few years we became CAMs affilated and all that other crap but if it wasn't for generous nature and common interest of the mini this event would of stopped many years ago.

Now I made some damned good friends from my trips to Hay from all the other clubs, even the QLD lads came down every 2nd year or so and I have to say that all this bickering is just a waste of time and space so get over it, Hotbricks have always complained about non minis and that will never change, I mean that is why they formed in the first place and broke away from the SA club and that as life moves on we find that a mini is not suitable for a familly car but even though people may change cars they are still the same and you want them in your club no matter what they drive

KB - I think the statistic is that it's the 2nd longest CONTINIOUSLY running motorsport event - has been on every year on the same weekend (afaik) for 39 years. Not even Bathurst can boast that anymore!!

i think one year it wasnt run due to floods or something

On the subject of the Datto, the driver of that car is the competition captain of our club, who works tirelessly to organise almost all of our motorsport events. He very rarely gets to compete as he is almost always required to official due to lack of other people to help out. He is a rally nut, and doesn't have a going mini at the moment. According to a couple of whingers with crap for brains, someone like this who has probably been going to Hay longer than you've been alive shouldn't be allowed to compete

noone was saying you cant run a datto, just you shouldnt get points for running a datto. Even if you didnt have a mini, there are plenty of people in your club that do and organising a drive would be MUCH easier than trailering or driving a datto up to hay.

Get real, and have a think about the crap you're talking. Yes, it's an event MAINLY for minis, but why the hell shouldn't other cars be allowed to have a go. It's for mini enthusuasts - not all of whom have minis at any given time. Call the rear wheel drive, and non-mini catergories support races!! In your logic, there wouldn't be V8's or sports cars or anything else at the Formula one Grand Prix!!

no its not an event mainly for minis, its the MINI NATIONALS.
You don't take a v8 to the 4,6 and rotary nationals.

PS. There is a MINI-ONLY event there - it's called Hay Heroes!

Like any event it needs to constantly improve.

next year maybe i wont frakkin drag my rusty arse breakdown mini 800kms when i could easily drive my tow vehicle or some other thing and stand a much better chance of scoring points.

Well yeah it's obvious. I mean many people at Hotbricks don't drive mini's too the club meeting (except for as of course the mini is my only car. but the brave men. actaully one guy who drives a moke drives it, without a cover in rail hail or shine. Now that's a true mini man!). But This is not what the 'bitcing' and fighting is about! It's about mini owners (mostly from Hotbricks lol) who dislike better and faster cars beating them in a MINI meeting as it isn't fair. It's legal! But not too fair. I won't have a go at you for driving a 240Z in motokhana and neither would I complain that mokes aren't allowed in the Hay's Heroes. It's just the way it is and will always be! BTW the mini only thing is a little more important than just for winning at Hay lol, it's got a lot to do with most of club being so into minis that every other car is crap na dso that the historic rego's for the club are all minis. PS next year in trailering so i can thrash the life out of min in Hay's Heroes and the motokhana! I drove this year, I think that is enough mii driving for my life LOL

Well as a khana is the perfect event for a mini anyone that was beaten by the Dato should really learn how to drive  I would say that the driver of the Dato is a bit of something special and those whinging should thank there lucky stars that he wasn't driving a mini because they would really look bad then :D

The driver of the Datsun was Fly, one of the most gifted talents behind the wheel in a motorkhana you will ever see, no matter what car he drives he drives it fast, you don't win 6 NSW motorkhana championship classes & 3 Australian motorkhana titles by driving slow.

He also won the Hay heros a few years back. Yes i was beaten by him but only by .47 of a second, still should have pedalled the cooper s a bit harder.

Hay, it's not about the car, it's not about the venue, it's about the people that come here. Peter Dwyer, Mayor of Hay NSW.

Just to settle the argument, I plan on competing next year in any one of these.

I think maybe i made some people angry with mentioning the datto. I didn't mean to put him down. Just used him as an example. Yeah changing the subject a little i found a pic of my car at the show and shine. Well two but only one absolutley awesome photo by Richard Appleby. Check it out! http://rtaphoto.com/gallery2/main.php?g2_view=core.ShowItem&g2_itemId=8204
