I have tried the castrol edge 25-50w.. good for warm weather. Since its cooled off here (in canberra) ive changed to the HPR30, made changing gears a bit easier when its still a bit cold, the edge made gearshifts a bit too hard and easy to crunch.
Still im finding gear selection pretty hard until its warmed up properly, the quickshit probably doesnt help, but has anyone used anything thinner than a 20-50w in a mini? or is that a no no due to the box?

Synthetic = more $$
Non synthetic = less $$

If your gearbox is all in good nick, there should be no probs shifting even in the cold with the castrol edge oil.

The poms have a LOT colder weather than we do!

It's pretty cold here now, for Syd-n-ey... :lol:
Castrol R 25W/50 is good in both mine, hot or cold. No crunching.
However, I was recently GIVEN 10L of Fuchs `Titan' 20W/50 SG, so of course, it'll get used... 8)

If you have a munchy crunchy gearbox, it needs fixin'.... :lol:

Says the man in the tropics! :lol:
But how many gearboxes are in good nick anyway? Mine was built in 1966 and has not been touched since then. :lol:
Seriously, I have tried a few different oils in cold climates and I am happy with HPR30. It starts and drives well at -10?c with no problems changing gears.
HPR50 was no good at all in the cold (I only tried it because I had some and I was out of HPR30) I had to drive about 5km before I could change gears properly.
I have not tried Castrol Edge but I might do it at the next oil change just for a trial.
