I wonder then if I can safely say that 71 GT's had WHITE needles and 72 GT's had ORANGE needles?!?

Maybe they were white coming out of the UK, and in 72 Leyland Aus decided to change them for 'Aussie conditions' ?

On closer inspection the top (GT logo) looks correct but the rest not.

Minichick's g/knob

looks the same as mine

Maybe not an Aussie one. The GT mystery continues.

yeah jules, that is what i was sayin to anton,, the top is correct, but my body seems narrower?? it is def an orginal leyland nob as u can see the remanants of the wood grain that has been there previously and it looks to evenly worn to have ever
been transferred..... do u think it could have been off something like a 1300GT >>?

i think it would make sense that they changed the needles to organie at some stage, in 71 both base models and GTs had white needles... so obviously leyland did not feel the need to differrentiate with needles... so when they changed to orange needlles then i would say it was a change across the board... I think it would be too patchy to say that 72 was the changeover,,,, but i think later model GTs could be said to have orange needles... ????

What about MGB GT ?

That's probably more like it.

Oh and on the needle thing,,, i just noticed that Elles car is a change over one
(column mouinted ignition etc) so that must of been when the changeover was...

I could be.

Do you know that a few years ago when we sold one of our Clubman sports sedans we put on it a BRAND NEW one of these GT knobs. Not really knowing at the time of their rarity :x  :x

We're seriously considering ringing the guy up to see if we can get it back.
